I would like to start by saying I've recently only bought a 500 Abarth for my other half so am a complete novice to the workings of these cars (I drive a Scirocco)!

I've picked up a second hand one from Autotrader and was given the two keys as promised, however when I asked about the central locking I phased out and didn't listen....

Now I'm lost as to how the system works (as stupid as it may sound!). I have two copies of the ignition key but no remote control key?

From what I can tell, I have a 'CODE' card as well, so I assume I would need a dealership to create the remote key using these codes? If that's the case is this a dealership only route, sounds expensive?

Some guidance would be much appreciated. The car in question is 2010 registered.

Thank you.

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

Yes unfortunately remote keys are dealer only as far as I know. The car (from factory) should come with a remote key and a non-remote key (2 total) so it sounds like the previous owner lost or broke the remote key and went the cheap route and replaced it with a non-remote copy.

Ah ok that sounds about right. So if I take the car and this 'code' they can give me a new fob synced with the car?

And then charge me an extortionate amount no doubt!

Thank you!
