those little scum bags broke into car so alram needs going on been to alarm place and they said which i think quite unsual for a garage they would suggest going for the cheaper option which is just a alarm neither cat1 or cat2 (no idea the difference) would this be recommended as for a garge to say this and not go for the money is unusal

All depends what type of garage it is as to wanting to grab money. If a good garage then they wouldn't

I would go for an alarm off of eBay. £50 inc P+P will be more than enough to get a good enough alarm. You can pay hundreds to get one fitted which will lower insurance, but never cost in really (in my opinion).

And fitting it yourself isn't hard, and you'll save loads. I've fitted several in my time now

cat 1 is alarm
cat 2 is immobiliser

They probably said go for a cheap alarm as they may not be able to install insurance approved systems .
