Re: Remote engine start

got myself a feature packed alarm / imboliser / anti-hijack / remote start / remote locking / remote engine kill etc etc etc the list goes on.

for £40 on the bay - took 4+ hours to fit though wires to everything, but it works a treat - the instructions were easy to follow (identifying which cables on the car wasn't) and it works really well - too well the 25 second auto arm isn't enough time to get shopping in or out

But if your going for remote engine start - remember if you have a fiat imboliser it won't work unless you leave a key in the ignition to fool the imobilser ring. Personally I wouldn't fancy doing this as scumbags will see the key and break the window!

Re: Remote engine start

I mainly got this one because of the watch engine start bit (007 style cool)

you don't have to leave the ket in the ignition, you can have a blank key coded and snap the key part off, just tape the top part of the key to the ring.

why didn't I think of that! How much does it cost to code a blank key?

Re: Remote engine start

i've not really looked into it, the last time i was looking for a key coding it was going to be about £25, but if you don't want the key part, maybe they'll do it cheep. prices may have come down since i was looking too.

I found that with the alarm I fitted to the Panda, and I'm scared of locking the keys in the car as I have the alarm linked to the central locking, so have deactivated the feature.

Jon.

Re: Remote engine start

So what is the point of remote start?
Waste of fuel IMO and just a gimmick for the Kruzers.

Especially at todays prices, also risk voiding insurance if the car jumps forward in gear and hits someone or a car, as no-one was in the car at the time surly?

So you've removed the igition barrel? So there is no steering lock on the car now, sounds risky, but fun, lol.

I do a lot of walking and during winter it'd be really nice to blip the car and have it start with the air con on ready to warm everything up by the time I get there!

Yes 90% of the time it's a gimmick and I wouldn't actually use it unless I needed to / it was to my advantage!

anyway, i've ripped the annoying thing back out and havent bothered with it till now.

I'm moving house and would really like to get it installed before i move.

i've been quoted £200 to £250 for fitting it, the other places i've tried won't fit something they've not sold.

does any one know soneone in the barnsley/rotherham/wakefield/dewsbury area whos a little more reasonable, or needs their van signwriting, graphics for their car etc..

applogies for the essay by the way.
Have you got this sorted as we have a fitter in your area that might be able to help you.
