| Car alarm + insurance Q don't have a fiat if that makes a difference. In fact, i actually don't have any car at the mo ![]() Being a know-nothing about this, i've come to ask the experts here lol The next car i get, or at least the one after that, could be a bit on the expensive side, so natually, i'm going to want to kit it with an alarm if it doesn't already have one. question is, does a good alarm actually bring the insurance down, OR, because the alarm could possibly be quite expensive itself, does this send the insurance up a bit? Also, recommendations on buying a decent one & not a cheap+nasty bit of kit. finally, where'd you go to get one of these fitted? Thanks in advance.

| Scorpion King | Re: Car alarm + insurance Q If its Thatcham CAT 1 system you would normally get a discount of your premium, you will need it professionaly fitted and probably require a certificate for proof of fitting. There are a few on good old ebay for about £100 or so but you shouold get a good deal at a local independant audio stockist who could arrange professional fitting. You may also want to consider a tracker if the motor is worth serious cash, there are cheapies that are GSM (mobile phone based) systems or police linked ones for a bout £300-£400 fitted plus anual subscription. Hope this helps

| Re: Car alarm + insurance Q well i'd probably be looking around the 2001 year. Have no idea of a budget really, as, i don't know what these things range from. Never looked into it before. Just was wondering about decent ones and whether they bring the insurance down or not etc

| Forum moderator | Re: Car alarm + insurance Q Some companies don't - my Fiat has an immobiliser and when I was looking at alarming it, they told me it would make no difference to my premium, even if it was CAT1. So a cheapy Ebay one did the trick
