Hi all. just bought my 2007 this week with 126,000 on it. So far it's great. Loads of pull very tidy inside and a full mot with no advisories yesterday.

However, i do have an obvious amount of free play in the steering. MOT guy is a friend of mine and said nothing obvious is showing in the suspension, but he did notice it from the steering wheel down to the pedals. I'm estimating about an inch of free play, maybe less (seems like a lot to me?)

Can this area be checked and adjusted?

Actually showing on previous Mot at 34,000 miles, but not since.

I remember - years ago - the old Ford Cortina had a "collapsible element" in the column , ( a plastic spacer IIRC)

any kind of rough treatment induced such an "unconnected" feeling

I'd study the diagram, then look for loose bolts / clamps 1st..
