Failed two bits on the MOT

Anti Roll Bar linkage ball joint dust cover excessively damaged so that it it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt Nearside Front

For the above I was going to purchase these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331101526692

Thought that would be a simple cheap fix rather than just buying new seals might as well do the other side at the same time.

Suspension arm has excessive play in a ball joint Offside front

This one though bit stuck here I was thinking about purchasing

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321932364526 or similar

IF I replace this do I need to take the strain out of the springs or would I be no where near it? I'm hoping just like on a car give it a good hit with a hammer, undo nuts/bolts and replace ensuing everything lines up..

IF I'm wrong though shout :)

Tried to tackle this yesterday, see what you mean about the springs think ill be fine. Wishbone set up a bit different to what I'm used to but all looks fine (think there is some sensor on one of the mounts ... not sure though)

Jacked it up, got two axle stands on the go only have 3 ton ones and van is close to 2.9 gross weight i think? so better to be safe. Take a look at the project and then notice every single bolt I need access to and then some are seized :(

Consider myself a strong guy could not break the grip so soaked the lot with wd40 rust release (which i love for moving anything) and still no luck! SO gave the lot another spray and left over night - hope my impact driver adaptors turn up today and hopefully that will do. I know the risks about rounding the bolts off just want to give it a bit of a 'impact' which i hope will break the grip and allow me to remove with ease.

If the rain holds off I can get on with the job today.

Changed linkage no problem. The wishbone however I can't even get the bolts loose tried everything totally stuck and deflated looks like it's going to be a garage job :(

Yes got one now :) , but still wont budge! I think half the problem is the height I have the van up I can't get under it to give it any good leverage to break the hold so I think it's a garage job - shame.

You really need a decent tool kit & some quality items. A breaker bar for instance is a very handy item to have, but then again you have now said you're not getting properly under your vehicle. As I've said so many times before, we tend to get only a part of the story in some cases so at best guess work is our only option at times.....:)

Yeah I have some decent tools no full kit like a full time garage I guess ;) Yeah the lift on an axle stand only gives so much room to get under the van had it on a ramp and being able to stand inline with the bolt and then push with my entire body weight didnt work in the end i tried to do the reverse, I pushed to try and tighten the bolt and it moved about a mill pushing back the other way was much easier and the grip was broken :)

Still cant pass because of the bloody wipers so looking at making my own switch for that with direct current as no one can find a fault..

No mention of wipers..??

Nope! Wipers working fine because the washer pump isnt getting power it's a fail because I can't clear the window - don't know whats wrong with me throwing a bottle of water over the windscreen when driving mind.. ;)

Is there provision for a REAR WASHER on the stalk..??

that COULD power the pump - directed at the front screen - with a little ingenuity;)

Sadly no rear washer on the stalk. You think the issue is with the stalk?

I thought as the wiper was activated once I tried to use the washer I elminated that and the fact wipers at all speeds work didnt think the problem would be there. I think its a wire fromeplace thats burnt out. Don't know what else it could be..

stalk is probably fine..,

ok, so you've had the pump wiring off, and there is no switched 12 volts..??

definitely NOT a blown fuse..?

is there a rear screen heater supply or something - you can rig power from..?

Taken pump out, put multimeater to molex connector and no voltage. Changed all fuses in cab and engine bay to be safe!

The pump I fitted was a new replacment as I thought it was just the pump.

No rear screen heater no supply to it nothing that I can see where I can hook up. I can get some wires and connect the pump to a 12v battery to test it but as no power is getting to the pump anyway I doubt it's a duff new one.

The only three things I can think of is:

1. The earth is bad and corroded someplace (not sure where the earth is for the scudo i know on cars it's normally behind the front lights but I can't see any grounding when I last looked at that location)

2. Wire has melted / failed someplace again i cant follow the wire path without taking the wing off.

3. A contact in the stalk is to blame.

I'm stuck at this point as taking the pannel off id rather send it to the garage but again I dont want to pay money out for someone to root out the problem.

If anyone else has any ideas though shout :) Willing to try anything at this point!!!!

Washers where working fine then just stopped - no sound from pump nothing again using the stalk wipers work and i trigger it to wash it goes through the set 3-4 wipes what ever it is to clear the screen.

Regarding the wishbones onodle, it's advised to change in pairs. Not set in stone, but it is advisable.

See I thought it was best to do everything in pairs but when I went looking I read I could do them one side at a time I did check the lower ball joint on the driver side and was no signs of ware or failing any time soon. But if its best done in pairs I can grab another wishbone and ball joint think the last one only cost me £30

Cheers :)

Just an update on this I still cant locate the problem for the washers! So after getting the pump to run direct from battery I'm going to fit a switch to the dash to run it that way... Should get it through the MOT then everything else is done.

Been stalling on this as I managed to get a new stalk (rather than drill a hole) plus mapping the cables looks to be a nightmare.

Tried a new stalk no joy :(

Removed pump and connected direct to battery that works :/

So now problem I think is either in the relay or at the fuse box someplace OR it's a wiring / earth issue..

Think only thing I can do now is mount a switch to the dash and have a fight plumping cables in.. Something I'm not looking forward to :(
