Hi,

can anyone tell me how to go about replacing a broken sliding door handle on a 2007 model scudo? I have looked through the workshop manuals and taken the interior panel to get at the lock.

Is the only way to drill out the rivets to remove the lock mechanism and replace the exterior handle after that? If so, what size rivets are they as I don't want to drill them out and then not have the right bits to refit afterwards. I measured the rivets exterior at 15-16mm but have no way of telling the shaft size cos I can't see it and it doesn't seem to mention it in the manuals - tho i could be missing something.

If it's possible to change an exterior handle without taking the rivets out that would be much better, but I'm not sure what to do.

I checked out the "2007 sliding door exterior handle" thread (new user, can't post a link) but can't get my head around it tbh

any help much appreciated! Even just the rivet size would help me out!

oh, i can't find 2007 model manuals, only the earlier model. (FYI)

Well I don't have a 2007 model but a 1997 model. But my 1997 manual also says I have to drill out the rivets.

I don't think there's another way to get the doorhandle of. Measure the rivets, buy new ones, and drill the old ones out. It's not difficult.

So I can replace the rivets just by measuring the head size? I was under the impression you can get various shaft sizes on the same head size pop rivets.

I can't see the shaft size even with the panels taken off, and online they all seem to be listed by that.

Just to update on what fixed this: turns out you don't need to touch the rivets to replace *just* the exterior part of the door handle.

If the exterior part of the sliding door handle has broken, remove the cover to the interior (as you will need access to the mechanism to hook the parts in place). Don't drill out any rivets.
Open the sliding door and look at it side on - you will see a small hole at the same level as the handle. In there is a screw in there (hex / star / torx screwdriver needed) that will release the exterior handle.

Replace the handle and make sure you've connected it up inside, and that's your lot! (y)
