The clutch bite point seems rather low on the pedal's travel.

Only change recently was: cam belt replaced.

Is this adjustable, or a symptom of a nasty bill coming up?

Now, after a trip of about 750 miles, the pedal bumps the bottom of my foot when it returns to the top of its travel, as if some spring-loaded thing has just flipped over and knocked the pedal upwards. Any ideas?

Has anyone any ideas?

The clutch does not slip.

The bite point is low - just a little way up from fully down.

Fairly often, the clutch pedal does not return to the "up" position after being pressed down. It stays halfway up, but can suddenly spring back to the proper "up" position.
