Hello guys,

Need some advice about the location of the oil drain plug.
Concerning Scudo 1.6EL petrol 1997.

Is this the drain plug ? The big hexagon allen nut at the bottom of the sumpcase ?

or is it this one:

Personally i think it's the 1st photo. I believe the 2nd one is at the gearbox.

The big (what I believe) drain plug hasn't come off for many years.
I can't get it loose.
I've sprayed it now with penetrating fluid. See what happens tomorrow.
Maybe I can heat the plug.

But is this the real drain plug ?

Hi robdyk. It used to be possible to buy a multi headed wrench with various shaped " heads", one hexagonal, one square, one ???.They were used to remove the tapered plug on gearboxes They were about a foot long.
Not so sure about using heat on the plug though. What would you have used?

I have a complete socket set for allen sockets. I also used a rather large (2,5 feet long) torque wrench. But I saw the bolt was too tight. I would'n use any more force since the sump case is not too thick.
I allready saw that the metal was beginning to twist.
Heating the area around the plug might not be wise (due to the oil offcourse).

Maybe spray some more penetrating oil, and lots of gently tapping..

If that doesn't work i might be able to use some sort of external pump. Stick a hose in the engine and suck up the oil. It's drastic, but I have no other ideas.

(perhaps dismounting the entire sump case, but that's a job when you really need a workshop and lifting equipment. I don't have enough skills to perform such a job, so it might be better to abandon that idea).

Hi robdyk. Talk about stuck fast. I saw a thread on using an external hose to remove the oil from the sump recently on the forum, but can I find it? Hopefully Charlie Varesecrazy will come up with the answer. Charlie just beat me to it with his post.

Well, the only thing that worries me a bit is that the plastic or rubber hose can't get deep enough in the engine via the oil filler cap.

Your dad could have bought himself a new tool, but I know what you mean.:D

I bought myself an oilpump €30 from bol.com. Stick the hose in the hole where you probe/measure the oil level, and hook it up to the car battery.

I'm too much concerned about damaging the drain plug, so I leave it alone.:p

Well, my oil pump has arrived. I hooked it up to my car battery, and sucked the oil via the oil dipstick hole.
Big tip. go for a ride for 10 min. to warm up the oil, otherwise when the oil is cold it will take a long time (30 to 40 min.).
With the oil heated it takes about 10 min. Looks a bit strange, but hey who cares.
It get's the job done...(y)

I notice at 12v oil pump at Lidl £12.33, three year warranty. No idea if it's any good. I prefer to drain the sump though. If you suck the oil out, that's the time to get the heat spanner on the sump/plug.

Yes I agree. The first choice is offcourse to drain the sump.
When the oil is out i could heat up the area arond the plug.
But I do not often have to change the oil.
I don't drive more than 7.000 km. So an oil change once a year is enough.
12 pounds for a Lidl pump is quite cheap.
You don't have to use it every day. So no big deal if it's less quality than the professional ones ;)
