Hi there.
I have a 2002 Scudo 1.9EL (non turbo).
On start-up from cold it sounds really rough for a few seconds until I give it a bit of revs. It then sounds ok. It sounds like piston slap.
At first I thought "oil starvation" but every now & then during the day and usually when it's idling the revs suddenly drop a bit, it sounds a bit lumpy and I get a cloud of white smoke from the exhaust and a smell of diesel. Once I give it a little blip of the throttle it clears and runs fine again.
Any ideas ??
I've read on a few forums about it possibly being the "cold start solenoid". Anyone know where this is and what sort of job it is to replace ?

it almost sounds as if it's losing the ability to combust in one cylinder..
probably due to low ( or a momentary loss of)compression,

you getting the revs back-up restores the compression ignition routine..

it's possible the solenoid is making it over-fuel..

no idea on it's location though.

is it a Bosch system..??

Cheers.Thanks for the reply.
Over-fueling sounds favorite - especially taking into account the white smoke & smell of diesel when it does it (unburnt fuel ?)
Not sure what system it is. Too cold, windy and rainy to have a look here at the moment !
If I manage to sort it or just find out where the solenoid is I'll post it on here.
Van has run perfectly all day today after the initial "bag of spanners" noise first thing this morning so I'm not in any particular rush to get it sorted. It's just annoying me.
