Hello there
My 2001 Scudo popup camper I love. However, brakes failed (master cylinder) and the 'mate' mechanic of mine lifted the vehicle and bent the subframe. He says it's rusty and he "essentially saved my life."
He says to scrap it (it's on his land) and cut my loses.
I am not so sure. If the chassis is rotten as he says am I just plastering it up fixing these things?
The TDi engine and interior and all else is great.

PHOTOS are on my profile (I'm a newbie so can't make links :/ )

The front subframe is bolt on mate and readily available 2nd hand for £80-£100 so it wouldn't be a patch up job!
The chassis on these don't generally rot but do occasionally get failed on the sills which are non structual on these anyway!
I wouldn't scrap it mate, if you can't afford the repairs put it on ebay auction it will fetch £800 minimum and quite possibly a lot more. the poptop is worth a few hundred alone

Could the so called mate be telling you any old rubbish as he made a pigs ear out of lifting it and fooked your van?

Cant see your pictures but if its a run of the mill pop top rather than factory you could get another van for 7-800 and swap the good parts over and get a pop top put in at a later date. I made a mini camper out of mine and dont intend having a pop top and i am 6'2"

That's a cool little van, what did your mate use to jack up your van which bent the subframe? Sounds like he's washing his hands of it instead of taking on the repair work. Any chance you could take a few pics of the underneath where the offending subframe is bent/rusty?

That does not look like a factory pop top. You would have two bars going over the roof. One is over your head up the cab what looks like it may still be in place and the one in the middle of the load area is cut away. You do have a strong point going over the rear so i would be asking about removing that load area bar. I.E, If you get the angle grinder out would you need to strengthen the van. If not take the pop top and all that is good out the van and just get another. Plenty low mileage vans going around and very good condition for little money. Time and effort may not be worth changing sub frame.

Looks like he's sold it mate https://www.gumtree.com/p/vans/fiat...p-up-roof.-pro-mobility-conversion/1174250058

£400 or best offer!

Good spot MF, makes ye wonder why he was on here looking for information but didn't mention it was up for sale so with no real intention of getting it fixed, wudda saved folk wasting their time responding.
One other thing which is a real bedbug for me is members who come on forums in a bind, get lots of help & never say thanks even though you know they've been online by clicking on their profile.

Couldn't agree more Steo, if he had mentioned he had advertised it i would have bought it at asking price, I found it on google images just looking at poptops this throws up images even on sold adverts

Thanks folks.
I had another mechanic lift and inspect it today... he reckons I should scrap it and start again... the body is rusty and it's more than I can muster to keep the project alive.
2.0 jtd engine is a dream! Looks like that is worth a few quid. As is the captain's chairs and the pop up fibreglass roof of course.
I haven't the energy to deal with it. So will sell it but not sure what to ask???
Ideas of price? I've never seen another Scudo pop up camper!
fully insulated. It's a pro mobility conversion by Scootability.
I don't want to underprice it, for me it's not a fixerupper as I'm outta money

>>>>> advert >>>>>
Sound 1.9JTD engine 107k, runs like a cheetah and will tear up a motorway.
Pop up fibreglass roof with mesh/plastic windows! (£200 on Ebay)
Professional mobility conversion by Scootability. Carpeted and insulated ready for fixtures. Crew cab has lockable sliding windows on double sliding doors.
Fitted with rotating swivel captain's chair and fully adjustable driver's chair. Rear seatbelts.
Brakes went (master cylinder) and jacking it up bent the subframe - will need to tow away on an A frame. **Engine is good, starts 1st time every time but has no brakes**
Gutted. Don't have the time nor energy to continue this project... Engine runs like a dream, good gearbox, clutch, etc She really flies and has never let me down, she's not a total looker and has spots of rust, a few dings, usual Fiat quirks.
MOT till Jan 2017 and taxed till Sept.
Viewing this week to sell this week.....

So where's the problem? You have up for a monkey & have a queue of folks banging down your door to buy it so why have you still got the van; why didn't you sell it to the first person who offered your asking price?
