Seems to be a common problem on the Scudo, Expert and Dispatch early models. Any known fixes? I can see mine just and getting dimmer by the miles.
I had the clocks out and cleaned the two block connectors at the back but still no joy.

I replaced the bulb(s) on mine, since the figures became indistinct and finally invisible (dark), which much to my surprise fixed the issue. Perhaps yours is a different issue. I remember seeing something in these 'yur forums about ribbon cable contacts and sliding s sheet of paper under them to clean them, but not sure where

Cheers Zog. Ill have a play about with the bulbs as im presuming they are all the same wattage. In fact ill order some up first as a couple have popped in the clock.

Mine is totally black too, however it is not an mot fail to have a non working speedo or milometer.
Having said that it is annoying, so is it easy to get behind the clocks to look at bulbs.

Yeas, but........

Apparently i have one screw missing and its up behind the ignition area. That is all i got told when asking a question about the clocks shroud, however its apparently a bugger to get to so no one puts it back in. If this is the case all you do is. Two screws upper front of clock glass, Three < might be four round the central air vent. pull out vent then the whole plastic shroud.

Then two screws at clock bottom front and one upper middle. Pull forward to access two power caples and bobs your uncle.

Be very careful with the air vent. It's got steel spring clips for the screws to go through, which hold on to flimsy and aged plastic parts of the vent body. I found that these break off (repaired with "clip" made of baked bean metal).

The difficult screw goes into the clock shroud upwards, IIRC about 4" from the right-hand side. You have to have a longish screwdriver pointing up from the RHS of the steering column to unscrew it (remove upper & lower casings from around stalks on steering column).

If you don't put the difficult screw with its rubber washer back, you may well have trouble from buzzing as the shroud vibrates when you're driving, as I have found.

I dont have buzzing but ill still put one in as the shroud is bent up slightly and obscuring the idiot lights.

You do need a speedo for the MOT. See section 6.7 of MOT tsters handbook
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploa...ion-manual-for-class-3-4-5-and-7-vehicles.pdf
Interestingly it does not specfically check operation, but failure of the illumination is a specfic failure point.
Also a working speedometer is a legal requirement for using the vehicle (unless it can't go more than someting like 15MPH) so you can get a ticket if it's not working.
