Uncanny. Changing my N/S mirror after my tea as the wires are buggered. Funny, of late i see more and more model plane enthusiasts out flying the planes. Has the prices came down as i dont recall it ever being a popular hobby like remote control cars or even the helicopters.

Things have become more accessible in recent years, with technology in electronics marching on and prices coming down. Also, the recent craze for Drones and multicopters, has got more people interested.

My 2 meter 50cc CAP232 at the field.

Got my legs back from the welder....£20... Result.

Rubbed them down, gave them a coat of cure rust, and they will get a coat of Smoothrite tomorrow.

A bit of measuring will have to be done to get the bolts in the right place, I may have to drop the heat shield under the van to get to the bolts.

Measure twice drill once LOL

The important bit.

The £5.00 seat.

See how the bolts become captive in the rail on the bottom of the seat. Then the legs bolt up and bobs your uncle.

Off topic but worth a look. We had a bit of rain today at work.

Wow, You can't get your hat on can you. We had about a months worth of the wet stuff here. LOL.

Anyway... I have been making some things today.

I bought a 2' X 6' piece of 9mm ply and made use of the table saw at work.

I decided to make the Wheel arch covers a little shorter than the originals, and I want to make some kind of removable shelving later on.

OK, just had to go down the garden to watch my Daughters new gymnastics move. :D

Progress pictures from todays Effort.

Crap weather again today so I had a go at sorting out the rear seat in the van.

The first thing I realised was that the seatbelt had been fitted incorrectly, and in the event of a crash, would be totally ineffective.

So how do seatbelts fit then ??

Well I had to work it out, didn't I...

This is how it was, with the spool under the seat and going across your lap. Normally you would pull the belt across your shoulder, allowing forward movement but arresting your momentum under say, heavy braking.
As it was the belt just got tighter and tighter as I sat in it, and I was literally immobilised, like in a straight Jacket. :D

IMG_20160612_130112_zpsvz5chzxf.jpg

This is now, with the spool letting belt out over the left shoulder and into the clip, the lap belt part remaining taut.

OK, So I had to take the belt off completely and then remove the seat pad, as the clip retaining bolt was down the side of it.

I swapped sides for the clip strap and took the other belt retaining bracket, which had been bolted to the back of the chair at the top, off, and moved it under the seat and coupled it to the seatbelt spool, where it was meant to be.

I could tell this as there was also a threaded hole for an additional retaining screw.

Once it was all level and secure the belt worked as it should, so I could put the seat pad back on.

Bad Spool.

Good Spool

Naughty Bracket.

IMG_20160612_131002_zpso4mhslr2.jpg

Good Bracket. You can also see where the Clip belt is now bolted up under the seat in it's proper place, not in the side of the seat frame.

Just a pic to show how I used one of my fuselage clamps to hold some slack in the belt while I figured out where it all went, I also had the seat clamped down with two bigger ones to stop it moving around.

Humans do not have enough arms in my opinion, we should have at least one more, with an eye on the end of one finger, so we can see things we are trying to bolt up without resorting to acrobatics. (y)

So, there you go, a seat for £30, albeit with a bit of work, but still a mighty bargain.

How are you sticking that seat to the floor? Think you geed to go right through to the underside and use load bearing plates. If just screwing into the ply floor it would rip out in a crash and as that belt is not attached to the van body then that wont hold anything back either. Saying that you could just take the seat out when an mot is due.

I intend to bolt straight thru and use a plate as you suggest. there are six fixing points but I may use just four.
I fitted a row of three in my last van and had no troubles with MOTs.
I built a partition behind them with a gap so I could get big things in still. :D

Today I made some things, Mostly it was completing the rear wheel arch covers.
I decided I wanted to keep the use of the tie downs in the back just in case, so I shortened the covers and fitted end plates made from 6mm ply.

First tho was the sustenance.

IMG_20160617_124525_zps917va1qe.jpg

Next was something for the covers to cling to.

IMG_20160617_115802_zpsikxmwj27.jpg

And a bit of anti-squeak cushioning.

IMG_20160617_120023_zpsctoctt46.jpg

Left and Right and end covers made.

IMG_20160617_124548_zpsypkb7wqo.jpg

Lastly I should be able to get three bikes in the back with room to spare.

here in Ireland the police would throw the book at ya for fitting seats
and not changing the road tax class and log book uk is more relaxed
on van conversion

But a van is a van and a van with crew cab is a van. What if you got the proper crew cab seats and put them in?

What the other poster is saying is that the Irish Government changed the law a few years ago coz folks were buying crew-cab pick-up trucks but able to claim vat back on them plus tax them commercially.
In Ireland (south) petrol & non-commercial diesel vehicles pay the same road tax which is mental dear for anything over a 2.0Lrt engine.
You even have to declare a van which holds three people as commercial use so you can't even bring your missus & kid to the shops.
If you're stopped by the cops, you could get done for no insurance, fraudulent road tax & false declaration.
