Hi.

I'm getting a random braking issue, which I can't replicate on demand but it's a tad dangerous.

Occasionally, during braking, the pedal will seem to "Give" a little and this is accompanied by an almost ABS kind of rythmic vibration / knocking and seriously reduced stopping distance.

My van doesn't have ABS (I don't think) so it could be vibrating with the revolution of the road wheels? but whatever it is, it needs sorting. Icant get it to do it on command, even when trying very hard braking, or when an ABS would normally kick-in.

Has anyone had this before or knows what it is and how to sort it please?

Thanks

Sounds like a warped brake disc, as it's spinning around, it's pushing against the pads which gives you that ABS type sensation. Might be one disc which is bad or maybe the two but jack up the van on one side & remove the wheel, put an axle stand underneath to stop the van lurching forward. Start the engine, put it into 1st gear & let out the clutch, have a look at the disc to see if it's spinning true, if it's okay, do the same on the other side. Good practice to replace both discs & pads but if you're on a budget, replace the bad one.

Thanks but this is a totally random thing - it happens very occasionally.

If there was a disc issue,I'd have thought it would do it all the time?
