Hi!

I have a 2001 Scudo 2.0 JTD

I bought it used in June 2014 (it is my first car), and shortly after I realized that it didnt have enough power, or what I would have expected. Some time after, "check engine light" did its first apparition. I checked for the codes and I got P0401 and p0101. The feeling is that at 2600RPM, when the car should react at its most, it simply doesnt go any further. The turbo doesn´t start either. And sometimes, under certain conditions, if you take the foot out of the accelerator this actually helps...

I did an external cleaning of the EGR as shown in youtube video "gOGjAQHVeCc" but the problem persisted. A mechanic also blew some air inside of the EGR tube and he told me that he thought it was actually clear. I also cleaned the Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF) with Brakes cleaner as shown in youtube video "0JaN3Rzx7rA" and it partially helped, so I thought that the problem was there.

Some time later, I decided to change the Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF) and Bingo! The problem was solved for several months. 6 months precisely.

Last February, I left the car parked for around 20 days during a trip, and when I returned, the check engine light is back on, the power problems are there again, and the error codes are the same.

What might be happening?

thanks!

I did unplug the MAF and there was no noticeable change in performance. After some time, I plugged it again and I confirmed that the performance was the same (pretty bad) with the MAF plugged or unplugged.

I forgot to mention that now, the problem seems to fade away after I drive for a while. I normally drive long distances, and when I start my trip the check engine light is on and the performance is bad, and after some kms, lets says 50kms the performance improves and the check engine light turns off.

Where did you get the MAF sensor from? let them know you think it has gone faulty and see what they say, they may send you another for testing, however if yours is not faulty they may charge you for the carriage to you and back.

I think I read before about someone having a similar problem & it was a split hose going to the turbo. I can't remember which one was the culprit but check from the intercooler up.

I am pretty sure that it is not the MAF sensor, since the car started to work very well when I changed it.

after the winter, the car was mostly parked, and it was in that moment that the problem reappeared. I am having the feeling that it might have to do with the EGR Valve. Perhaps the valve is very dirty, but when I use the car a lot is not a problem. But when the car is parked for some weeks, the problem is there and it takes a couple of hundred kms for the car to respond as it should.

what do you think?

And, if this is the case, how can I remove and clean the EGR Valve from this vehicule?

I would anyway like to describe the problem again as it is being right at the moment.

The following happens when the car sits for some days:

The turbo is not engaging properly at the revolutions it normally would (2600 to 3000)

When I reach 3000 revolutions, there is 0 power. nothing.

After a couple of hours of running, the car starts working better, but the check engine light is still on. When I turn off the car and leave it for an hour or so, and turn it back on, the car is working perfect, and the check engine light is gone.

In such cases, when reading the obd codes, the following codes appear:

p0101
p0401
