Hi all, I need to swap the alternator on my 2001 1.9 non turbo or A/C. I have a replacement and see there are 2 bolts fixing it to the block. Do I slacken the pulley by undoing the nut or do I release the belt somewhere else? Any help gratefully received. Andy.

Hi, and welcome, :)

the sprung idler pulley is the best bet,
as you'll HAVE to use it to get a belt back on.., ;)

normally requires a LOT of leverage:eek:

Thanks Charlie. I only had a quick look from above, is it obvious which is the idler pulley? Last time I changed an alternator was on old Fords where there was just a fan belt. Showing me age now.

Sure its the nearest to radiator but try with spanner and it will move also do a diagram of way belt goes
