Hi,
1.9d Scudo, 1999. Think it's a DW8 engine?

It won't start, just turns over, unless I use the manual primer button next to the fuel filter. If I push it 7-8 times it then starts and runs perfectly!? So clearly a fuel issue. Reoccurs even after a drive.

Not sure if there is a fuel pump in the tank that has failed? I'm hoping the engine bay fuel pump must be fine as it runs smoothly (well as smoothly as it gets!) once I get it started.

I don't really want to have to keep going under the bonnet to start it so anyone know what could be wrong?
Thanks

Pump in tank should whirr when ignition is turned on, until pressure is reached, then whirr again as engine cranked.

Pressure should be maintained between runs. Your symptoms suggest the pressure is bleeding away, or air getting into the system. If ok once running, pump in tank is capable of keeping up, but may be getting weak.

When was the filter last changed? Drain it of water and check all connections are tight. Follow the feed pipe back from the filter all the way to the pump/tank and check for any mouse damage that might cause a leak or air leak.

Re: Won't start without pumping fuel through

Filter was changed a couple of weeks ago. Ran fine until today. Rechecked the filter and no leaks around the housing.

I had a problem with my stilo never use to start in cold mornings but when it did start it would run through the whole day I changed battery worked for a few days then same problem again then when I changed the crank sensor ever since first time every time starts

Thanks,
Will try reseating the fuel filter but fairly sure it's not leaking- it has been driven daily for 2 weeks on new filter.
In tank pump not going to be easy to access as van has fitted units and is also ply lined so that will have to come out first :( I will get under and try to listen for it first to confirm its failed before having to strip van out. Might look at dropping fuel tank in case that's easier
