Hi all.

I am trying to source a gearbox, on a budget. The gearbox code is 20dp35, and the cheapest I can find second hand, is £875 :/

My current box is looking at being written off due to internal damage.

Can I use the box from another of the 9h.. engines? I.e. Partner engine with 20dp33 box, or 307 box with the code 20dm75? Or any other boxes you can recommend?

I am not bothered about ratios, as long as it doesn't end up undriveable, I just need something cost effective to get my tools, to and from work!

Any help or suggestions welcome.

Thank you.

Best bet would be to ring s reputable scrappers. They'd know if Citroen, Peugeot & Fiat are interchangeable. Was that price you got for a reconditioned gearbox?

Thanks for the reply.

That was just a second hand box for that price.

I know mine is pretty ruined. Synchro plus ground out gearing.

I have made contact with a local gearbox expert, and I am dropping the box for him to give me a free quote to overhaul anything that's damaged. I think I will take it from there.

I have found some sub 10k boxes with slightly different codes which are under the £100 mark, I'd have been keen to try however!

The only foreseeable problem I could see using a gearbox from a different manufacturer would be the crankshaft position sensor mounted on another spot on the bell housing. As long as everything looks okay, you'll probably get away with a cheaper box.

I managed to get a 20dp75 gearbox from a 2013 Citroen Dispatch 1.6 HDI, MPV. 7.5k and £400 delivered :)

My van gearbox is a 20dp35, I could only find one with 90k on it at £400!

From the images provided I can tell that the box looks pretty much identical. The part numbers for the 1st and 2nd gear synchro are the same.

Drive shaft seals are thee same.

So with a bit of luck, there's barely any difference!

Oh, and there's a free return within 14 days :) So I had best get to work taking the old one out.

90K miles on a gearbox is not much & should last you the lenght of time you'll have the van. I'd imagine a lot of taxi drivers drive Scudo people carriers & go through a fair amount of gearboxes so scrappers can charge what they like.
Don't forget to throw a new friction plate & release bearing into the clutch while you have the box out, good luck.

If I thought that, I'd have gotten one with 90k. But oweing to the fact my gearbox has turned to garbage at 68k. I won't be going for one with 90! Ha.

Anyway. I have a new clutch to go in, as I wouldn't see myself short for lack of good measure
measure.

My box was supposed to arrive today, but hasn't.

I've been rolling around on the drive, swearing at the van

Tbh Alfie, buying any second hand part is a risk & probably the worse component having to replace is a gearbox. They're expensive to buy & time consuming to replace. You can't really test it unlike an engine & if it does break, it's a pain in the ass to do the job all over again.
However gearboxes shouldn't go at 68K, only ever seen them implode from regularly carrying weight too heavy for the van. Unless you know the vans history, it's gonna be a coin flip whether the part lasts. It could be from one with a 100K of easy motorway driving or something out of a courier van with 50K but was carrying tonne pallets all day long.

well I went for a 20dp75, it fitted fine after I had my chassis chopped to pieces, and my captive nuts replaced!

The gearbox is sweet now. Albeit after a pricey repair!
