Hi everyone

I've got a 2003 Scudo EL 1868cc.

The MOT is due in the next few weeks so I did an oil and filter change today.

Whilst I was pouring new oil in the engine I noticed a black sooty deposit on a pipe in the engine compartment.

It is an aluminium pipe which connects to the air intake so I guess it's an air pipe of some sort?

Anyone got an idea what is the cause of this sooty deposit on the pipe?

I have attached two pic's, one with the affected area indicated and one without.

I don't want to waste any money on an MOT if I've got a terminally ill van so I want to know what the fault is before I put it through the MOT.

Btw, there is no noticeable affect on the vehicle's performance or fuel consumption.

Thanks in advance.

Its the egr valve wouldnt worry about it put some injector cleaner in the fuel tank and give it a good run before mot

Hi thanks for the reply.

I already put some injector cleaner in it because the MOT is due.

Is the egr valve an expensive thing to have fixed/replaced if it fails MOT on emissions?

I know that this van will need a new headlight cluster to get it through MOT and I don't want to spend money on a new headlight if I'm gonna end up scraping the van.

Where exactly is the egr valve? Is it inside the junction where the pipe joins the air intake? I might have a go at replacing it myself if its easy to get at? ie if its at the top/front of the engine compartment?
