Hello,

Sorry for the newbie questions but need a little help

I've just bought a 2005 2.0JTD Scudo and it's got no power !
Done 128k on the clock and verified by MOT's etc.

It feels like there is no Turbo, I get the occasional surge but any hill on the road and the speed plummets , as yet I've not got the van above 55mph

Any help is much appreciated

Derek

Probably a blocked catalytic converter, plenty of vids on UTube showing how to clean it.

Try disconnecting mass air flow sensor and see if u have power

Thx for the reply, is there a way to check this ?
I've got a digital heat sensor, does the temp need to be the same front and rear ?

Try the MAF sensor first as that's the easiest job. As for taking the temperature of the exhaust, I wouldn't know what readings you should be getting but the inlet into the cat is always going to be hotter than the outlet. I'd plug a fault code reader into the van to see what codes are coming up. If you don't have that device, whip the exhaust off where it goes into the cat & see if it's blocked with soot.

Check the hoses for any splits and have acode reader plugged in to see if any codes

"Check the hoses for any splits"

Ah. Black smoke and bunged-up cats...

If there is NO change this could indicate a faulty MAF...when you disconnect the performance should get worse with a healthy MAF.
If you buy an aftermarket MAF...make sure its the Bosch.

Ok, if I buy a MAF does it need coding to the van like my VX Astra does ?

I won't go spending money yet, no smoke sounds like a blocked cat.

Is the eml light showing on van maf sensor does not need coding but as steo m says check the cat

Update,

So my friend who had a 1996 1.9D Scudo got me thinking.

I've got no Engine Management light on the dash, so took the instrument's cluster out and found 6 lamps dead, from the EML to the Airbag light to the fuel and temp warning lights were all out..

So down to my local car parts shop and hay presto I've now got a full bank of lights and the EML is on fully, so at lest I know I now have a problem, lol

Asked a friend of a friend if he could plug his diagnosis machine in and yes there's a fault, turns out it's the Boost Value ( as photo'd )

So he cleared the fault logged on the computer and the EML went out, get in ( or so I thought )

Now this did solve the problem, van now had power and I hit 70mph :slayer:
Until 2 miles up the road and the light came back on and the power went again.

So I've ordered a replacement valve, let's hope this fixes the fault.

Should be here by next week, I'll update when I've fitted the part.

Cheers for the replies

I'm watching this thread closely as i have a similar issue i reckon!
Good luck!

Like you said, feels like no turbo, but i have an Engine Lamp that's ok and not lit.
I just wish that i knew where things were on the engine side, its ok to say clean the EGR but i have to find it first for instance!

cheers, Danno

Danno,

In short it didnt fix the problem

So got mechanic to plug his diagnostic reader back in and says Waste Gate Faliure. He told me it's the Turbo that gone.

So bought a s/h Turbo off eBay, when it came it was seized, so at the moment I'm getting a little fed up with this Van.

I get told this, then that, now it's this and the van still has no power

Update on my lack of power !

So got a local hgv mechanic ( friend ) to take a look at it for me.

He plugged his reader in and said the EGR Valve is only working to 5% so he advised to get a blank plate and try this !

Didn't make any difference.

Attempt two, had another look and he says it looks like the head has been off for some reason, a new head gasket gives it away.
So he went to ask about in the trade and came back to me today and said he suspects it may be the injectors.

So my question is, could this be my problem ?

He says if the injectors have been taken out and cleaned ( incorrectly or on a wire wheel, it buggers them up )

Thoughts please

Only way is to get injectors tested take them out and take them to a diesel specialist
