Can anyone help me when i put my fiat scudo td in to 2nd gear it grinds a little every other gear is fine but there is a lot of play in the gear stick any ideas

sloppy change mechanism will not help..,
checked oil level in g-box..??

does it change smoothly with engine OFF ( parked)?

Ok will check level and yes engines of changes fine

My 05 2.0 JTD has started doing this, grinding a little when going third to second but not 1st to second. Is this just worn out syncromesh or something easier to fix?
If I push the gear lever toward 1st before going into second it doesn't grind.
Any clues?
