Hi, really pleased with my 2001 scudo combinato ive just bought, only have one problem and that is the fan heater which is blowing slighly warm air but no where near hot. The scudo reaches just under the half way temperature and does not overheat, i have no creamy substance under the engine oil cap, water is up to correct level in radiator resevoir, i dont know exactly which pipes should be hot or not but i noted that i couldnt really find one that was very hot as if full of hot water. Any advice appriciated, many thanks Geoff

y 2004 Scudo normally runs at about 72 deg C. on the dashboard thermometer. What's yours reading?

Hi Zog, sorry for late reply, internet problem but hopefully sorted now! Enging temp is at 78, it does go up a little (82) if I put my foot down and down a little if I put the heater on (76) then returns pretty much to 78.

Got in my scudo after work today, a but chilli and wasnt looking forward to the trip homr then all of a sudden lovely hot air blowing through the cab! No idea why but hope its still workinh tomorrow! Anyone guess as to why that would happen? Cheers Geoff

mine does this all the time. its due to contact breakdown on the carbon track rheostat behind the slider control. Been meaning for some time to rub a graphite pencil lead or a contact cleaner on the track...but never had a round tuit:) Been getting by with jiggling the heater control slider knob side to side around the temp I want...works eventually

Is that all it is Andy, got in the van this morning and flipping freezing again! Im not the best at these diy jobs as things never seem to go back in place again so is there anything to take off or can I spray some cleaner on whatever it is?

Haven't a clue mate, which is why I have not done mine yet...like I say I seem to get away with sliding the lever, and jiggling it around where I want it to be...takes a while in summer to get it to blow cold...try this with yours, slide it side to side and finish on the RHS to get it hot

Hi there. Ive a similar problem in my 2000 scudo el. Blower works fine but the heater is stuck on hot (Opposite of Labmanvan's issue).
Slider moves freely, though the knob is broken off... Just doesnt seem to make a difference to the temperature output.
So there is a carbon track to this slider which can be sorted with a pencil etc?

I "think" there must be a carbon slider...or a chunky rheostat....but have not had time to investigate. As said previously I am getting by just waggling the lever side to side with push and pull pressure...seems to change temp eventually. The knob fell off mine too...should not make difference...one thing bugging me...when I changed the brushes there is a big alloy lump with pimples in the motor housing...vaguely remember some one said this was the resistor pack??? there is no physical connection between this and the lever???

conventionally there will be a water valve - that regulates the flow of HOT coolant from engine into heater Matrix,
I suspect IF you can find it you can SHUT it down to 10% flow.. had to do this on my old Tipo, plastic linkage was broken:eek:

Thanks for info and link. Will investigate further in the week. Will also try just sliding it around a lot first and seeing if that makes any difference.

Just realised, I'm getting Fan speed control mixed up with temperature here. sorry for confusion...its an age thingy! :)
But do remember another thing from the distant past was that the cabin heater radiator stays the same hot temperature, sliding the temp lever just actuates motors and flapping duct air valves to push either hot or cold from outside through to the cabin. Can anyone confirm this???

sorry no specific experience,
 would a FRENCH van forum have better info..??on the "SAME" vans:confused:
