Hi, This is my first post and wondered if anyone else has had the same problems i've had, the van is an 08 plate and to date i am on my fourth EGR valve, the first one went within 12 months (from brand new), the second within 10 months, the third in August 2011 and now this one in February (5 months apart) surely even though i do reasonably high mileage i shouldnt have needed four of them, has anyone else had to replace as many ? as breaking down in various places en-route to my work as an entertianer is now really getting beyond a joke not to say costly !

Most of these vans will run thier whole life without replacing the EGRV. Some do need replacing but unlikly to be more that once in it's lifetime. Most likly cause would be the DPF in the exhaust is choked. It is expensive to replace but is a possable cause. There are aftermarket ones available at a much reduced price from clickparts.com I have used them on a few vehicles and apart from having to bend the mounting brackets on them to make them fit I have never had any problems after fitting. Might be worth a try.

Thanks bigdong, i'll mention this to the garage who did the replacement, the valve every time had basically fallen to bits, so not that it just packed in, the end fell off ! as for funny fuel, at £1.42 a litre at my local Jet garage.....it better not be !lol

There is a software update on the scudo engine management for improved egr operation. The problem being the egr valve is chattering on its base during operation and knocking the end off!!

Hi fellow egr fault sufferers!!
My Scudo showed the engine management warning light accompanied by the loss of power. My friendly local garage hoooked it up (free) to diagnostics showing the 401 code. He advised me to replace the egr valve asap but also said as the vehicle was in 'safe mode' I should be okay to keep running it gently.
Yesterday I started up only to have NO power even to pull away and huge billowing blue/black smoke from the exhaust.
The AA turned up within 20 yes 20 minutes and their excellent chap produced a universal blanking plate, fitted within 25 minutes, as a temporary fix. He also cleared the fault code and a round-the-block test was brilliant.
Driving home started well but soon the dreaded 'antipollution faulty' warning came back on the display and power dropped back down to the maximum 2000 revs and no grunt.
I thought that blanking off the EGr would fix the issue.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why not, and a way forward?
Thanks in advance . . . .

from memory I think this EGR has a sensor on it detecting the movement of the valve so the ECU knows exactly the position of the EGR. As the EGR is blanked/internally damaged the ECU will detect this and go into limp mode.

The AA repair will be 'get you to garage' only repair.

Many thanks for your help - makes sense (no pun intended).
Better get it changed, then!
I was entertaining the idea of a DIY de-clog but seeing the EGR's position and not being treble-jointed with three arms and eyes on stalks I think I will pay the garage.

Thanks again!!

In the interim I have to use the van. The fault code comes and goes, as does the power. My intuition tells me it is a slow/sticking solenoid due to grunge, having read the Forum's excellent post about what happens to these devices.
