Hi there,
I have a 2000 Y reg 1.9D EL scudo, she has sat idle for a month or so and when i went to start it last week, nothing.
She started fine before it was laid up but now she just turns over and over without any sign of wanting to start.
Suspecting the cold had gone the glow plugs (we have regularly had -15 to-20 up here) i changed them and while i was at it, changed the fuel filter also. After changing these i primed the engine using the manual pump and tried again, still nothing. Suspecting a fuel problem i cracked the fuel inlet to the pump and turned her over again, a wee bit of air came out followed by plenty of fuel so i tightened it up again, tried again and again nothing...
Next port of call was the injectors, I cracked them and turned the engine over again, no diesel at all seemed to be getting to them.
So the only idea I have is the manual primer pump, when i am pumping it a fair bit of diesel squirts out from round the 'plunger', my guess is that an o-ring or seal or something has gone in there and if it is letting diesel out then theres a good chance it is letting air in and thereby causing the problem with fuel getting to the injectors.
With this in mind, today i went to dismantle the primer pump but for the life of me I couldnt figure out how it comes apart.
So question number one is; Am i right in suspecting the primer pump as the source of my woes?
question number two; How the heck does it come apart???

Any help or sugestions is greatly appreciated :)
Gary

Ive just had a look, I cant see the cables coming from the stop solenoid for me to check the volts/resistance across it.
It would appear i have the same set up as the picture in the thread on here titled 'stop solenoid replacement'.
Except the red cable visible in the picture on that thread isnt visible on my fuel pump.
How would I go about checking the solenoid without chopping up the pump?

cheers
Gary
