1.9 scudo with stutter.

Hi,

I have a 52 plate 1.9El which has done about 119,000 miles. When at a very light constant throttle the van develops a stutter/hesitation. I got the van diagnosed by fiat who came up with 3 faults, the sensor injector, rpm sensor, and the fuel pump solinoid. Due to funds I have only been able to change the injector and the pump solinoid, but have been told that the RPM sensor would not cause this problem. Nothing has been solved by changing these parts, and the van still stutters. I took the cat converter out it as I was told it could be the cat breaking up that is causing it, however this has not changed anything. Anyone got any other ideas?

thanks

Michael

Re: 1.9 scudo with stutter.

Could be the MAF sensor on the back of the airbox.
Take it out and clean it "carefully" with alchohol soln and refit, some say that cures the issue, other than that maybe try a new unit.
Altenatively, make sure you don't have any air leaks, that causes the same symptoms.

I have an issue with mine where when driving round a roundabout it stutters, damned if I can find what that is..

Re: 1.9 scudo with stutter.

Your description sounds very much like the way my van is going too. I've heard (read) that it's due to the mapping of the accelerator position in software (look up quantisation noise) where you are moving between one logic level and the next (sort of like moving between one step and the next higher).

Basically you are on the threshold of two possible data levels (to be sent to the throttle body) and you are 'jumping' between the two.

Remapping of the throttle software makes these 'steps' more frequent (i.e. smoother) and, theoretically, stops the stutter (surging???).

I'm still deciding if this eBay device will be worth getting to cure my problem. Was hoping someone else on here might have experience of it.
