scudo mpg, jtd or old td? and general advice?

looking to buy a van, did have a vw 2.4 tdi SWB transporter (t4).

but the price of diesel is killing me and i simply don't use all that space, so I'm going for a smaller van.

looking at the expert//scudo//partner. as its long enough for my needs but a bit more car/renault kangoo like

either an older 1.9td, or teh more modern 2.0jtd
would be an early jtd 2000/2001 though.

anybody any suggesions on fuel economy, e.g best worst/combined + then what you really get from teh van.

Also just want to know what they are like to own, fun to drive, or still van like?

Re: scudo mpg, jtd or old td? and general advice?

I have just bought one! For exactly the same reasons! I bought a non turbo 1.9d 52 plate Scudo. Drives just like a car, plenty of space in the back, comfortable, quiet in the cab, mine does about 35mpg (have not had it long so have not had chance to do a proper mpg check). Being the non turbo it is a bit sluggish, but i didn't buy it for performance reasons, i bought it to do a job, which it does perfectly. With the twin side sliding doors it is very easy to load up.The rear loading area is approx 2mtrs long so if you need to carry long items such as ladders etc, you will obviously need a roof rack. I had a long wheelbase Transit Van previously,it was a crewcab one and believe it or not, the loading area in the back of the transit van was a touch smaller than the Scudo.
So, if length is not too much of a problem, buy a Scudo/Expert/Dispatch!!!

Re: scudo mpg, jtd or old td? and general advice?

We have had one 1.9 Scudo, but after that van we have had several JTDs. Says it all really.

The difference in fuel consuption was negligible between the 2 engine sizes, but the acceleration and ability to carry loads with the JTD is far better. The 1.9 was a slug, especially on the motorway loaded up, but the JTD is effortless. Don't forget that the 1.9 is old technology, where the more advanced 2.0 is more efficient. So although it has an extra 100cc and turbo, it uses the fuel more economically.

These vans do drive like a car, and have 3 seats plus 2 side doors. Being a compact size, its easy to park, but it does have a large load space for its size, with plenty of height.

Get a 2.0. Although its a van, its actually a pleasure to drive!
