Engine Warning Light on 2002 Scudo

Hi all,

I bought a 2002 Scudo 1.9 diesel just before christmas. About a month later it developed a slight hesitation at low revs in all gears. As the van had always been serviced by an independant dealer who I kenw. I took it back to them to see if they could diagnose the problem. They hooked it up to their equipment and couldn't find any faults, however hinted that it could be a problem with the diesel pump.

As I was on my way home from work this morning the engine warning light came on and the engine started to sound rough. This noise would clear after a while, then come back. I have been told that the diesel pumps on vans of this age were quite prone to failure. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be, or experienced any similar problems?

Any ideas would be a great help

Mic

slight hesitation could be air flow meter but the 1.9 (non-turbo) are common for pumps but best getting it checked as they have wiring loom problems aswell.

Re: Engine Warning Light on 2002 Scudo

Hi Welshspark here.

Had very similar problem with my 04 1.9d scudo a fortnight after I bought it back last september. It was the air mass flow meter (located in the air filter pipe). The van sounded really rough every now and again like she was firing on three cylinders and would pull and tug like she was running low on fuel. I didnt have the engine warning light come on however. Took it to my fiat dealer who diagnosed the fault in five minutes by putting a good air mass meter on and running the van. It cost me £170 in total, £90 quid for a new air mass meter and the rest was for labour and clearing the fault codes off the engine management.

Re: Engine Warning Light on 2002 Scudo

Hi there its Linden, my engine management light came on the other day. When i turned the engine off it kept running for a few seconds, i thought i could live with this but the next day the engine kept stopping, just as if i was turning it off, no jerks or missfire, This was not only a pain but dangerous. I felt i had no choise but to take it to my local fiat dealer who put the diagnostic machine on it. After 2 mins the mechanic told me the problem was the fuel pressure sender on the pump. They fitted me a new pump 3000 miles previous, so i chirped in, "its under warenty then" after talking to his manager he informed me that it wont be a warenty job if it is blocked. Bet they tell me its blocked. wont no till next week as guess what. They dont stock the part. Let you know how i get on.

Re: Engine Warning Light on 2002 Scudo

HI there its Linden, It was the pressure sensor which is fixed to the end of the pump with 2 bolts & has an electric plug on the end. £522 repair bill, part cost £228 + vat, what a rip off. Hope this helps
