General Scudo JTD, engine noise. Help please?

Just joined the forum in the hope of some sensible advice as my local dealers are driving me mad.

Bought an 16 month old Scudo JTD a few months back. Done 50k on the clock. All was fine until about 6 weeks in and noticed some engine noise which was getting worse. Not being en expert I would describe it as very loud ratting in sync with acceleration similar to how a car sounds if the tappits are gone.

Ive had HDi engines for years and my previous van was a Citroen Dispatch 2.00 Hdi so I know how such a diesel engine should sound.

Anyway, took it to my local dealer and they agreed straight away that the noise wasnt right. They had it for a few hours and reckoned the fuel injectors were the issue. They then kept it for 8 days! On return they said they had cleaned the fuel injectors and all was fine (work done under warranty)

Only it wasnt......the noise is still there but they say it sounds fine now! Took it to another dealer who also says it sounds fine.

Now Im pulling my hair out. It sounds like a bus....a very old bus at that, with the engine noise clearly audible in the cab. It no way sounds like the smooth beast that HDi/JTD engines should be but 2 dealers now reckon there is not a problem.

Any advice on what the issue could be and where to go now would really be very appreciated.

Could it be your TVD ( torsional vibration diffuser ) Bottom pulley in other words?

take down the accesory belt , start the engine w/o it and see if hear it again.

hi i seem to have the same problem. 2 garages have looked at car fiat scudo 20.jtd. both agree noise not healthy. then after having car in, both say dont know problem . live with it till it breaks then we will know where noise was , ha great help,, noise seems to be like what i would call pinking or diesel knock. on mine if i drive at the slowest of rates hardly towing engine at all noise is not there but as soon as drive normal then noise is there, it seems to be within the 1700 revs and 3000 revs at a guess cos no rev counter. thought it could be injectors but tried 3lots of cleaner then thouht it could have something to do with injector timming so tried veg oil , no result then tried some octane booster to see if it could help what i thought was a type of pre detonation , ah this has helped to reduce noise, but was woundering have you managed so get yours sorted and what was the fault down to,, ps both garages thought bottom pulley , one was ordered ,fitted , aha not the problem, the noise can not be heard just by revving the engine it has to be driven, this seems to have the garages with a problem, you can not get your head under the bonnet at 40 mph ha,, even trying to set off with hand brake on will not result in hearing the knock,,

try it only aspirated , see if heard again. if not, mechanical problem. if still, than injector leak. work in three by pulling one at a time , see when disapears.

hi again not been back to this topic for a while ,, problem still same even after 10k miles , not used any oil or water still a great engine but noise still same ,, ok how do i make the engine run with no turbo or no extra fuel charge when turbo kicks in,, as to make it run like it was a non turbo engine,, many thanks

problem solved one set of second hand injectors of ebay,,, £50 just looked for injectors with same numbers on top as mine.. got them fitted and hey presto rattle has gone £40 fitting,,,, al i had to check was that the new injectors where bosch as mine was and then the 2 long numbers where the same and then the catagory number was also the same ,,new injectors came of a 2litre hdi 90hp even tho mine a 110hp fiat,,
numbers on mine were 0445110044 also this number finishing in 08 is the same type ,second number was 9637536080 and finally catagory 2 hope this helps

hi glad you sorted this out i have a 2001 110 jtd weekender so i'll keep this info if and when i may need this ..well done ebay lol
