Just a quick question in regarding to retro/upgrade fitting from factory radio/cd/mp3 to connect+ that hopefully someone can help with.

If I were to re-site the power feeds and plug the new unit in, I understand that if all ok, the odometer would flash as a new node would have been discovered and would need proxy alignment to be run. If in advance of running the alignment I was to remove the unit, recorrect the positive feeds for the original and put the original back in, would the odometer flashing stop?

Just working out the best quickest way to test that a unit is working before purchasing. Thanks for any assistance on this.

The Croma Connect Nav+ is similar to the Stilo one that I've dealt with several times.

Providing you don't carry out the Proxy Alignment procedure while testing the CN+, the mileage will stop flashing once you refit the original radio.

When testing the CN+, you will need to connect both the permanent and ignition switched supplies. Everything except the trip functions will work with just the permanent supply, but when you switch the ignition supply on, the CN+ will probably stop working and ask for the master code. If the seller doesn't have the code, it will be very expensive to get it from Magneti Marelli in Italy. If the CN+ is an early NIT G1 version, it may be possible to bypass the code with different firmware, but for the later NIT G2 version it's not.

Sorry for delay in reporting back - everything was as you said Dave, and I proved it was working as far as I could check before it wanted a code. Odometer stopped flashing as soon as the original was re-installed.

Now trying to source the code - but have the unit on a code or no sale basis, so if between the seller and myself having no joy I wont lose out.

However, unlike the standard radio (which in the accompanying handbook warns that entering a wrong code results in a delay/wait time up to 24 hours), the connect+ handbook states:

"In case the correct code is provided, the system is fully enabled. On the contrary, if a wrong code is entered, screen is cleared and previous box is shown again with the following string: Incorrect code entered. Enter mastercode or turn off system. There is no upper limit to the number of wrong codes that can be entered."

No mention of delay/wait times? Now, I'm not over excited by the potential of going through 10,000 codes until I hit lucky :nutter: (probably shag the buttons at least :D ), but does anyone know from experience as to whether this is fact?

I note from the download section that it says its exactly the same for the Stilo Connect+.

There's only 3 ways I know of to get the Master Code for a CN+.

If it's a new unit, a Fiat dealer can get it from ISR using the registration number of the car it was originaly fitted to. I got a few several years ago using this method for £15 (GBP) but prices vary according to dealer. Current price seems to be about £30 - £40. Problem is knowing whether the CN+ is the one originaly fitted to the registration number. Also, a lot of units were replaced under warranty and the dealer was supposed to notify ISR of the new code. I suspect that many dealers didn't bother.

If it's a reconditioned unit, Fiat dealers can get the code from Magneti Marelli using a high definition photograph of the barcode label on the unit. Some dealers don't know they can do this (or don't want to) but there was a service bulletin issued several years ago explaining it. I've successfully used this method twice.

I can check whether it's a new or reconditioned CN+ from the part number if the stuck on paper label is still there and legible.

Most expensive way is to send the unit to MM in Italy re. this e-mail I received from MM.

Hello Mr XXXXXXX
For the issue of master code you have mentioned, the CONNECT system on your Fiat Stilo must go to Magneti Marelli laboratory, only in this way MM can found the master code.
The cost is 145 Euro.
You will incur the expense of the transfer to Italy, where as to transfer back will be to our expense.
The payment will made via bank transfer to Magneti Marelli.

Address MM laboratory: Auconel
Viale Kennedy 230
10040 LEINI’ ( TO)
Italy

( €145 was the price in 2009 ).

Hi Dave, the numbers on the unit are:

IMEI 500189440250420
735419921
C141 then between the bar code 534C01N8F B03

Guessing that this is an original as the part number is as per listed in eper and not one of those noted as a recon in the later versions?

Not sure which one of those you need to confirm if original or recon unit.

Do you know if the wording I copied from the manual is factual with regards to no mention of delay/wait and there being no upper limit to the number of wrong codes that can be input?

Thanks

evo

IMEI is the number for the phone module, similar to the IMEI of any mobile phone.

Yes.... 735419921 is the Fiat part number for a new one. (71789324 is the number shown in ePER for a reconditioned one).

534C01N8F is the serial number.

The wording you quote is the same for the Croma and Stilo CN+s, but as I have the codes for all of my CN+s, I've never needed to try the 0001, 0002, 0003 approach. I suspect the wording is true though. If you really need to know, I'll fit a different one in my car tomorrow and try some wrong codes in it.

Thanks Dave - would really appreciate it if you could confirm re wrong codes.

Fitted a spare CN+ in my car today. I tried about 20 wrong codes and it didn't start any waiting process. I could have gone on for ever. When I put the correct code in, it accepted it and started working normally.

You going to start from 0000 or backwards from 9999? ;)

I'm just checking my medical/health insurance to see if repetitive strain injury is covered :D

I'll report back when I've cracked it, but in words of Captain Oats "I am just going outside and may be some time" :D

Thanks again for your help on this Dave - greatly appreciated Sir (y)
