Hi All

I have searched the forum but haven't found the answer I am looking for so as newbie I am posting, hopefully correctly?

I have on order a Bravo 1.6 Multijet Dynamic Dualogic, since it is the only sub 120g CO2 diesel auto (ok semi auto) I can find in the compact family class.

Why, just got fed up of paying Alastair Darling any more than absolutely necessary in Company Car tax and well, there is a credit crunch! :)

My current vehicle has a factory fit system and I like the uncluttered look.

I have purchased a TomTom Go 540 Live Sat Nav and have on order a Centre Mount Brodit ProClip for Fiat Bravo to use as the mounting plate.

Given its central position. does anyone know the best way to have the unit hard wired in the least obtrusive way? I wondered if an auto electrician could route a cable via the centre air vent? If this possible or does anyone have a better idea?

Thanks in advance....

Dont know what the brava interior is like but on mine, just under where i have the sat nav mounted (in the middle) theres a little storage compartment, i drilled a hole on the side that cannot be seen and fed the power cable through there and wired it to the CD Player power supply

if you post a pic of where your sat nav is mounted and the area around it i may be able to sugest something

Here is as picture of the intended mount point, just above the air vent. Since it is a lease car I need to try and get a solution that doesnt involve a drill so I hope that doesnt complicate things too much!

2 options i can think of off the top of my head:

1) route the cable behind the glove box, up near the door and along the front at the bottom of the windscreen (could be difficult trying to hide the wire at the front near the windscreen)

2) through the air vents like you sugested, im not enntirely sure but you may either have to drill the ducting (this wont be noticable unless the air vents are removed) or remove a bit of ducting. On mine i think it is only a short section (about 2-3 inches) that can be removed.

Hope this helps, if not let me know and i will try and think of more possible solutions!

Hi Mike

Thanks for the information, as soon as I get the car I'll take a look. Do you think it is worth getting an auto electrician as I am not really savvy at this sort of stuff?

Regards, Ian

I would say it's a really easy job once you know where you are going with it (haynes manual will help you remove any trim) but i have had a logical/engineering mind from an early age...

if you have a little space behind your cigarette lighter you could tape your plug (for the sat nav) behind the centre console and have 2 short wires to the cigarette lighter socket (rear) the centre part is + and the outside bit is -

you will probably not be able to cut the wires and wire it directly to the cigarette lighter as inside the plug, the voltage is usually dropped to about 5v (from 12v)

Hope this answers your question (i cant give you a yes or no answer because different people have different abilities and different cars have different difficulties...)

Mike
