Last week I posted an appeal for assistance re checking my car with multiecuscan. I had been assured by a non-FIAT garage that they could change my oil and reset the ECU, as my "change oil" lamp and warning had lit- only to find that after the oil was changed they discovered they could not reset the ECU !

They had tried to reset initially without success using a SnapOn "Solus" machine. In fairness to them, they called me back a couple of days later, had a second attempt with the SOLUS- again no success! They then connected a Toughbook laptop with some unknown software, tried numerous times, apparently unsuccesfully, then declared themselves beaten, and said I would need to go to FIAT.They advertise diagnostics fault finding, so I was a little peeved but in no position to argue as I had to leave the next day. So I drove off again with the warnings still lit up.

Fortunately moderator Robert - aka g8rpi- had stepped into the breach to offer assistance, and by good fortune I was due to pass within a couple of miles of his home that very Sunday- good fortune or what? Anyway,I felt a little relieved that I could get a check done, but rather worried until I got there. So, the fateful day dawned- I started the fully laden Qubo, wife, dog, cat and baggage all onboard- there was NO warning light!!! Bizarre- I'd driven off with the warnings active, the garage had declared themselves unable to reset them- but they appeared to be so.

I took a VERY steady 50mph drive to Robert's place. Incidentally, the Qubo since about 35k miles appears to have "run in" and I got a recorded 64.9mpg for the 103 miles to Robert's home, far better than any previous run- maybe the new oil, maybe divine intervention, who knows?

So, Robert puts the Qubo on FIAT multiecuscan on his laptop. Lo and behold, the ECU has been reset! The mileage for the oil change is correctly recorded, the oil degradation meter is correct at over 98%, and a complete check shows no fault codes. Amazing- unknown to the garage, or me, SOMETHING had gone right and they had been able to do the reset- just nobody knew that it was so!

So, a huge THANK YOU in public from me to Robert for having put aside the time during his Sunday relaxation to check my car using his expertise and superb software. My mind was set at rest for the rest of my return to France...... and here I am, over 700 miles later, all safe 'n' sound, the Qubo performed again without hitch.

Glad you got what I was thinking.
My partner is French and her sister used to drive all over France with her ? in car with her. Penelope the cat would let Anne the human know when it was time to stop for a "break" wouldn't wander off , justice get back in car when she was ready.
Amazing.

One of my cats would give it a go if your huskard sat still and quiet . She has made friends with a White westie that is walked past my house twice a day. Amuses me to see them nose to nose. All fine till westie gets bit too excited. then cat backs off a foot or two.

All attempts so far have resulted in the dog having a bloody nose but still seemingy happy.
That's a shame , still 10 out of 10 to your canine for positive attitude to the experience.

Just briefly back to topic (to digress from diagnostic felines and moggy/doggy love) my Qubo has in the past refused to acknowledge garage resets (indie garage) but after 'resting' overnight has woken next day with a clear warning free dashboard. No reason, no answers to it either. Cars are way too complex for their (and their owners) good.

Just reading a thread lower down about a sluggish Qubo and a possible suggestion of a blocked EGR, doesn't that really just suggest how useless an EGR is? To reburn gases (allegedly) by sending them back through the intake manifold and engine is doomed to failure of some kind just by the nature of the function. Maybe it's time to redesign the system or in fact make bold, positive, decisive inroads into alternative fuel for cars!

I'll get me coat...

EGR is used because it's cheap to implement. The car makers don't care about through life costs. If it goes wrong after warranty that's just more money for the service department.
