I was out on a longish trip yesterday, had been travelling for at least 3hrs(most of that on motorways) and whilst accelerating fairly hard (was going uphill after coming off of a roundabout) as you do in these things and just at the brow of the hill after I'd changed into 5th there was a sudden dip in power and revs and the check engine light came on, for a minute I thought the timing belt had gone as it felt similar to when the belt went in my clio but no, it was still turning over ok but with no guts behind it, stopped in a nearby layby, checked under the car, engine bay nothing leaking or hanging down etc as as we had no choice but to carry on being 3/4 of the way to our destination. After having left the engine off for an hour or so we started on the return trip, the car was still underpowered etc but seemed to be getting better giving more power (not having to change down another gear as we had done a few hrs earlier), and this morning when we had to go out to the shops the light had gone off and the power delivery was as normal.
I'm going to take it to the local garage I use on monday, would the engine fault still be traceable even if the light has gone out? any ideas on what the issue may have been? I was thinking turbo issues?

thanks ina advance an for taking a few mins to read thy post (y)

So that is quite similar to my experience. The error code was to do with diesel pressure each time. It self recovered. It happened twice in 10000 miles and not since. I think it is related to a drop in engine revs, then acceleration just at the end of a regen. If you get the error code read also the odometer reading at last regen can be read. Do you know roughly the mileage since the event?

the engine light will have left an error code.. best place to start.. ;)

ah thanks for that charlie, I was thinking knowing my luck it would only show a code if the light was on ;-)
