Hi. I'm on the verge of going to view a used 95bhp diesel Qubo and I felt I should maybe ask 95bhp Qubo drivers what it's like when you need to increase your speed from 60 to 70 to overtake on a motorway or dual carriageway. Is it plain sailing or can you end up in a mess due to slow acceleration?

Obviously I'm not expecting rocket power when the quoted 0 - 60 time is 12.2 seconds, but it would really help if I had advance knowledge of what to expect. After you've floored the accelerator, does the car take a while to register the fact that you're wanting it to speed up? Or does it respond immediately and swiftly? And do you need to drop down from 5th gear to 4th to make it do its stuff speedily or is it happy to accelerate smartish in 5th?

Alternatively, does increasing your speed from 60 to 70 take three-quarters of an hour and require the driver to take their life in their hands? And do you also run out of acceleration lane when joining a motorway?

I've recently been driving a 1.2 Corsa (petrol, 69bhp) and its sluggishness can give rise to the occasional hairy moment when trying to overtake trucks on busy dual carriageways. Ultimately the Qubo is a van, so how realistic is it to expect it to respond more like a car?

Thanks for your thoughts.

OK, so we have the 95. It is responsive to the throttle, hardly any hesitation, ever, so you come to trust it. I would not have bought it without a dual carriagway test drive, suggest you do the same. it gives you a particularly good view of the road all round so you can plan. It has better than average acceleration. Other German cars don't expect it so they actually give you more room! It handles well, never gets jumpy even in the wet. So all in it makes for ok long distance motoring. Only slightly elevated engine noise and revs would stop you staying very much above the limit, average busy motorway speeds are fine in any lane for it.

Okay then. So I'm guessing (because no-one's mentioned otherwise) that there's no need to shift down from fifth to fourth when overtaking...which suggests that fifth gear is a real gear and not a cruising gear and that the Qubo definitely isn't a rebodied 2CV. Cowabunga.

Yes, there's a dual carriageway near the car dealership and I was planning on taking the contraption for a zoom up it, congestion permitting, and hopefully back again. 'One previous owner', which is much more reassuring than six previous owners, I'd say. But you never know. Now let's just hope the car dealer doesn't insist on riding along with me and treating me like I'm taking my driving test.

Many thanks for your helpful comments.
