My Bipper is fitted with a 1.3HDi and Magneti Marelli electronics so I'm guessing it's really a Qubo with Pigout badges LOL. The oil light started flashing suddenly a month ago and it keeps saying change engine oil. It was serviced a few months ago, but I cant get rid of it, I tried the press reset button and turn on ignition and hold for 10 seconds which worked last time, but this time it won't. Any ideas as to what's happening? There was no countdown to a service this time either.

Hi,:)

IF you've got a DPF in the exhaust,
they will have reset the "service indicator" - but NOT the oil degradation index

this is common unfortunately,
basically you TELL the ECU you've change the oil , and it calcualtes how it's degrading through use, IF it's not been informed of the oil change, you'll have weird stuff like this,
take it back and get them to reset it - beware..IF it's tried to regen A LOT then your oil is already loaded ( polluted) with diesel , and will need changing again:(

Yes it does have a DPF, but its not been re-genning a lot. If I take it to my local garage and get them to reset everything and change the oil again will it be ok? I've a horrible feeling that the service interval got changed when they tried to reset the service light last time as they kept finding a section that adjusted the interval.

get them to read the oil degradation status in front of you.. if they can't do it.. don't let them near it again:)

I've just been reading on the MultiECUscan website and it seems that my car isn't covered by that tool. I dont think its an oversight because suzukis are covered on there. I'm getting very worried just what to do for the best. Shall I just take it to a Peugeot dealer and swallow the costs?

Quite likely it will work. I do my own services and have the software and cables to reset this, was nervous at first. Not a huge saving as Fiat will change oil for about £118 local to me. So maybe go do that for peace. My pay off is because I also service and fault find our old Ducato so get two birds.

Hi,
If it was not a Pug main dealer of Fiat specialist, then failure to re-set the oil degradation counter is almost certainly the issue. Generic service tools won't do this task and it seems even some main dealers miss it. If you don't want a stuffed up DPF and diluted oil take it to a main dealer or possibly a garage that does not look at you blankly when you say "oil degradation counter". If you are near Cambridge I can put my copy of Multiecuscan on it and reset it for you. As long as the ECU model is the same, the badge does not matter.

Thanks for the kind offer, sadly I'm along way away from you.
I took it back to the garage to see what they could do. They have snap-on gear. We looked through the data and found the oil degradation counter, and it said 0%. this was after we had clicked service reset in the menu. Does this mean the counter has been reset or does it count down to 0%. If that's the case I will change the oil and filter now before using the car again. I've got an ELM327 on order plus I've downloaded the free multiECUscan. I take it you need the paid for one to reset it?
BTW the oil light is STILL flashing and complaining about changing the oil despite the service reset.

Hi,
If the counter is at 0% the ECU thinks the oil is fully degraded. The reading is a bit back to front. 100% "degradation" is new oil. Unfortunatly you will need to register Multiecuscan to do the reset on a Qubo or other late model Fiat 1.3 multijet diesel. With the diagnostics there is a big difference between reading data and actually changing things on the car.

I service my Euro IV Qubo myself annually at about 7k miles. At 36k (2x18k) the service indicator came on so I took it to my local garage who tried to reset it with their Autel OBD unit. They could access everything except the service reset and said if it was Euro V with DPF they could do it .

So I took it to a specialist with a Snap-on unit and it was done in 2 minutes for a tenner ;)

Update on this issue....
Car all sorted now
If you have a Peugeot Bipper or Citroen Nemo with the 1.3 Fiat engine and magneti marelli ECU the software is NOT the same as a Fiat Qubo. MultiECUscan wont read the ecu, snap-on gear is not capable of resetting the oil degradation counter, but autocom gear can do it. You can also do all sorts of modifications to the settings like switch off the seatbelt buzzer etc. Only problem is, the software will set you back about 2 grand!

Compared to other diagnostic software packages with the same capabilities it's the bargain of the century. Pity the same can't be said about the diesel filters!

that's a shame.:(

it'd be good to attempt a scan with the full MES just to see what - if any- ECU data it'll recognise and connect to..,

I am just north of you in March.

Have a 1.3 diesel Panda 4x4 with flashing change oil light.

Can you reset and also reset the DPF thingy too ?
