Re: Qubo heater takes a long time to get hot

You would start the engine then turn it on.
The thing you were on about, you can still get them and run off 240 volt on a timer switch

Surely that defeats the whole point of having a (pre)heater!! I'd want it warm before start up hence the 240v unit that is on a timer in the garage.

Andydiver - the 4 pints of hot water on a freezing window...hmm.....precracked perhaps?

I want it to warm the car heater up faster
+ my heater is not that hot when the car is up to temp its warm not hot

Hi, expected a comment about hot water! Have never had a problem even with chipped Screens. The glass is much better than it was years ago. The key is to use lots of quite hot water to heat the glass through so it also prevents misting. Has anyone found decent screen wash jet heaters?

Can't really see the point in screen washer heaters if the bottle/pump/pipes are frozen the they are next to useless

Re: Qubo heater takes a long time to get LUKEWARM

I want it to warm the car heater up faster
+ my heater is not that hot when the car is up to temp. It's warm not hot

Precisely - some fault/failing/oversight/under achievement going on on these cars. My diesel Saab 9-3 was a lot warmer than the Qubo or Fiorino.

just fitted a per heater to my qubo
its got 3 glow plugs in it
the heater did get hotter but need to try it on a cold and frosty morning
so I will keep you up dated

yes this per heater is working ok
the heater gets hotter faster
I just start the car turn it on and turn it off when the temp is up
around the 1/2 way
but still not not had a frosty day to try it out

Re: Qubo heater takes a long time to get not very hot

Yes this per heater is working ok - the heater gets hotter faster.
I just start the car turn it on and turn it off when the temp is up around 1/2 way
but still not not had a frosty day to try it out.

This'll be a PRE-heater...

I still want to find a fix for the inefficient cab heating - the pre-heater will do some economy saving as you set off with a warm engine. I found this chap on ebay at £79 plus £10 postage (from Poland where a warm cab will be vital!)

I have yet to experiment with a blanking sheet on the lower 3-4" of the radiator. Will attempt and let you know (assuming I can access it as everything else on the car is so tight for space..)

I hired a Transit at the weekend and within about 15 minutes of setting off for Preston I had turned the heating down and did that twice more before Mottram Moor. Ended up having to turn it down to a mix of hot/cold to be comfortable so there is definitely a problem with our Quborini.

Re: Qubo "heater" is a misdescription..

this is what I fitted in the heater hose

Any chance you could do your pictures using Attachments (paper clip) so it can be blown up by clicking on it?
Can't make anything out on that at all. What make is it and where in the piping did you install it?
Mains? Battery run? Bought from Ebay?

its 12volt I will take some photos later and put them on
in fits in the heater hose
they are fitted to Renault 1.5 dci

This just seems to defeat the object of a "PRE" heater - clue in its name. Turn the engine on to power a heater to heat the water...the engine does that! Mains powered one has to make far more sense so the engine is at or near running temp AS you turn it on. Warm fluids reduce friction for starting, drawing less current whereas starting cold and having to run an x kilowatt immersion heater to heat water as well as putting a charge back in the battery....not a good mix imho.
I looked on ebay and find that Jaguar, Range Rover and the Renault mentioned have this inbuilt device so someone must think it a good idea - but then someone thought hydrogen filled blimps would be good too.

that's up to you mate but it warms the heater up faster
some cars have a diesel heater like rover 75 and range rover
some have 12 volt heaters some pugs and Renaults
and some have this system like Renaults fords Nissan

Yep - guess it works or they wouldn't fit it..
Did you find somewhere to mount the fixing bracket to support the unit or did you have to drill to bolt to the inner wing or bulkhead?

this is the pre heater its from a kangoo 1.5 dci
200 amp relay and a thermal switch fitted to the heater
and a switch fitted in the cab to turn on or off
and some heater hose + clips

Little tip I learnt from a training course on dpf regens last week when starting your vehicle turn every load on you can ie heated rear screen , headlamps front fogs and air con have tried it over the last few cold mornings and would say it knocks the warm up time down by at least a third :)

Re: Qubo heater takes a long time to get lukewarm

But! surely it burns more fuel as well, because of all the load on the alternator/e.t.c. ??

...and saps the battery which is already sweating from starting a car in 0C conditions? I presume your advice means turn on the services after starting up otherwise too much load..

Well yeh it's obviously gunna use a tad more fuel but it's kinda gunna be negligible, yeh turn them all on after starting , at the end of the day the vehicle will turn them on I prep for regen that's why the fuel economy goes down when it's doing it
