yes you could fit a tap in it I clamped it off for 2 weeks and it was fine
the bore of the hose is 8mm so if you got a tap with 8mm tail it would fit
I will take some photos tomoz and put them on

there are 2 types of thermostat fitted to the qubo see photos
the plastic type is the later type
its on the right hand side of the engine looking from the front down the side of the battery the small hose comes from that to the filler bottle just in front of the battery
you can see the small pipe on the top of the thermostat

Thanks for the clarification on the bead :)

The bottle is an expansion vessel to make the cooling system a closed system. In the days of yer Moggy Minor, expanded water (!) just overflowed from a pipe below the radiator stat and so had the be replaced by you. With the bottle system the water expanded into that but can be sucked back in as the engine cools to keep the levels within parameters. It's for less maintenance, presume also to keep us out of the bonnet area in case we might feel tempted to tinker, which I always do. If I see a connector taped up to a loom cable I always want to find the missing accessory and fit it. Same with blanking plates on a dashboard..

I'm not sure what effect completely clamping the expansion pipe had nor why restricting the pipe out/back flow will increase the water temp to the cockpit matrix. If it does it's worth a shot (I like the inline tap method Luigi!).

Coming back from the flicks last night my soh's Mini Cooper D was producing heat within about 50 yards. How is that?? Must be some superior ceramic heater as you set a temp on a readout gauge (21C in this case). The Imitation Game was the film, very good too.

Some years ago my then w1fe had an Alfasud (remember those?!) and it had a flat 4 petrol engine. It was hopeless at getting warm and keeping the cockpit warm. If you parked to go shopping it was cold again within minutes.

In minus centigrade temps here, the Fiorino took about 10 miles (A road 40mph and motorway) to reach operating temp (Qubo the same of course) but even then the fan has to go to #2 to get the heat doing anything to feel there's warmth. Poor show Señor Fiat :(

R-V-M

P.S. This seller on ebay has 8mm inline plastic taps (singles unavailable atm) and also has fish tank non-return valves which are a great idea to fit to the water line to your rear washer to prevent back-siphoning. :)thumb: Luigi)

I would closely monitor the temp with the pipe restricted especially in traffic , back in days of the mk3 escort they would block the inlet to the expansion tank with crud and overheat due to it , think the mini d uses a warm up assistor similar to renaults it basically a manifold in the heater line with 4 glow plugs in it really warms the heater quick !

Yes.......Did look at those tap's they are for low pressure and low temp only, that's why i went for the metal tap(y)

just done a 70mile trip the temp sat at 1/2 way and did not go over that
from cold the temp gauge will start to move in around a 1 mile now
as before it was 2 to 2.5 mile so in my book its got to be better
most of the time I only do 4 to 5 mile trips

hear are some photos I will point out the stat and the pipe on a 2009 and the later 2012 qubo
having a look at the old stat I took off the small pipe is a bypass so lets water out of the engine before its hot so that's why it takes longer to warm up

that tap looks good but I don't think you need it I drove around for 2 weeks with a brake pipe clamp on the pipe no overheating and a heater getting hot faster so just put the bead in yesterday
we all know an engine that gets up to temp faster is better on fuel
this is the type of bead I fitted in the pipe
I have done this on my 2 qubos I have
