hi all as anyone put a blanking plate in the egr valve on a 1.3 qubo diesel
is it running better
 
where do you get the mot fail from
when you blank off a egr on a diesel they all run better and cleaner & some say better mpg and pass the mot all the diesel cars I have had in the past 8 years + I have blanked them off
 
Lots of new regs coming into force Re the M.O.T, the system tells the tester what should be fitted to the car, and if its not there, (visible check), its a auto fail............

I've not seen anything in any special notices about such such things except d.p.f 's being removed
I think plugging on in a mot is many years off .
 
Egr valves are easy to spot even if a blanking plate is fitted, you WILL get a fail if you remove yours.
Egr valves are there for a reason, the engines are designed to run with them, fiat didn't just say oh f**k it lets just fit an egr valve for the hell of it!
Just leave your engine alone and stop unbolting parts and putting them in the bin.

Well said luigi , our veiw where I work with modern diesels is if they are serviced right with good oil and quality parts then there won't be a problem . We also educate our customers on the correct way to drive them aswell.
As for all this remapping etc hell no the answer I always give any customer when they ask me about it is " if you want to have more power the go by a car with more power "! Have had so many problems with remapped/add on boxes masking the actual faults with vehicles .

Thanks for the info and your support, but i have to admit i have a tuning box fitted to my van, and a piper cross filter, which has been the best thing i've done to it.
And andydiver and his sarcasm want's to grow up.......or sell his van/car.

Customers with non dpf vehicles are advised to periodically when the vehicle is at operating temperature to drive the vehicle briskly in 2nd or 3rd gear according to road conditions/ speed limits etc there is no point doing this with a dpf equipped vehicle as it will only perform a regen when all peramiters are met , we do add a product that lowers the ash and soot burn temp which really works well , there is also no substitute for servicing with quality parts and oils though , and all our customers vehicles no matter what marque are checked and software updated at service you would be amazed what you can fix with a reflash , luigi the only thing to watch with some chip boxes is they may mask injector faults .

EGR's are only an emissions device that only works when the engine is cold, these were fitted to reduce the emissions from cold no other reason. They block engines up, your basically putting cold exhaust gasses into your engine, when we took my throttle body off it looked like it had done 14000 miles not 40000 all soothed up, the only reason manufactures fit them is because of EU directives.
 
I have noticed more egr problems in the winter than the summer can only attribute this to the egr cooler being robbed of heat on the warm up period , don't get that many issues on vehicles fitted with warm up assisters .

Steady on, can't people have at least a clumsy stab at humour? The egr is to cool the combustion at high revs or very harmful NOX gases are produced. It will operate any time the engine needs to pull hard enough. The DPF catches cancer producing particulates. Both can be cleaned out (literally) if needed and nothing beats good driving and servicing as many good comments have said. Those who wish to defeat these devices should buy petrol.
 
Well aside from the humour in still confused as to when the egr blanked off will fail a not comes from though , there are some excellent products now for cleaning both out ( on vehicle and off) but it's still good fun hitting the button on the laptop and watching all the boys in the workshop panic when the car sits there revving at 4 grand for 10 mins !!
 
ive had my egr valve blocked off on my old Renault scenic for 2 years and have no problems except the emissions service light on
 
most engines run better with the egr blanked off
and keep all that black crap out of your inlet manifold
some say better mpg ??
some times it will put the light on if so just drill a small hole approx. 8mm in the plate this will keep it off
 
EGR's turn oil into acid and can make NOx worse!

"Disadvantages and Difficulties of EGR
Since EGR reduces the available oxygen in the cylinder, the production of particulates (fuel which has only partially combusted) is increased when EGR is applied. This has traditionally been a problem with diesel engines, where the trade-off between NOx and particulates is a familiar one to calibrators.
The deliberate reduction of the oxygen available in the cylinder will reduce the peak power available from the engine. For this reason the EGR is usually shut off when full power is demanded, so the EGR approach to controlling NOx fails in this situation.
The EGR valve can not respond instantly to changes in demand, and the exhaust gas takes time to flow around the EGR circuit. This makes the calibration of transient EGR behavior particularly complex- traditionally the EGR valve has been closed during transients and then re-opened once steady state is achieved. However, the spike in NOx / particulate associated with poor EGR control makes transient EGR behavior of interest.
The recirculated gas is normally introduced into the intake system before the intakes divide in a multi-cylinder engine. Despite this, perfect mixing of the gas is impossible to achieve at all engine speeds / loads and particularly during transient operation. For example poor EGR distribution cylinder-to-cylinder may result in one cylinder receiving too much EGR, causing high particulate emissions, while another cylinder receives too little, resulting in high NOx emissions from that cylinder.
Although the term EGR usually refers to deliberate, external EGR, there is also a level of internal EGR. This occurs because the residual combustion gas remaining in the cylinder at the end of the exhaust stroke is mixed with the incoming charge. There is therefore a proportion of internal EGR which must be taken into account when planning EGR strategies. The scavenging efficiency will vary with engine load, and in an engine fitted with variable valve timing a further parameter must be considered."
