Well it works for me and I'm pretty certain no one else carries as much weight in their Qubo on a daily basis as I do. Each experience is bound to be different. I don't get same gas mileage as the next guy for all sorts of factors other than the box. The second most interesting piece of data I guess you could look at is your average speed. Mine never goes above 15 mph. So I guess a return of 47mpg average, with the weight in, is pretty good. I did a longer motorway run the other day and it headed towards 50mpg. Like I say, many many factors. I can't afford a chip express box at £300 ish. I am sure they are better but as you say, you get what you pay for.
