Re: GPS 1.4 T-JET or GPS 1.9 M-JET

Are you a T-Jet owner as you don't say

This is one thats going to run and run and run and run

The two cars will provide a different drive. The M-Jet will probably (i put the word probably in because i have not driven a T-Jet) be more fun when driving within the cars torque band which is a characteristic of a turbo diesel car, the T-Jet's power band will be higher up the rev range. Whilst both cars are actually quite close (on paper) they are both going to have different characteristics!

Not only that but it all depends on how you drive your car too and how much fun you want out of it. I drive within the speed limit and still enjoy my car, and as idrive on quite a lot of country roads you get a lot of tractors and slower moving vehicles, overtaking in 5th / 6th gear is not a problem.

And, are you talking standard or moded?

If anyone has owned back to back a T-Jet and M-Jet then please come and give us your un-biased opinnion.

Re: GPS 1.4 T-JET or GPS 1.9 M-JET

Well my biased oppinion is mjet as i love the torque! and tuning capabilities is cheap and improves my mpg - Therefore goes faster and saves me money!

I quote Augusto @ Red Dot Racing "You will beat anything 220bhp petrol"

Yes the mjet is slower than the t-jet on 0-60 but has better in gear accelleration. Modded.... no comparison =)

T-jet for me. I like to rev my cars so a diesel isnt really for me. Turbo on the T-jet kicks in at about 3000rpm so power comes in pretty low down which makes overtaking easy.

Dont really think you can compare modified ones at the moment as a T-jet hasnt really been fettled with. Obviously the M-jet will get better gains off just a remap but this is characteristic with it being a diesel. Doesnt mean its the better car though imo

Re: GPS 1.4 T-JET or GPS 1.9 M-JET

ive voted multijet as im a bit of a derv fan myself

although the tjet is still a nice engine

the multijet is slower of the mark, but does have better in gear figures etc so is faster once on the move.

also, how many miles do you do a year?

have you factored this into the equation?

Isn't that because in gear figures are quoted in gears which favour the diesel, eg 4th/5th/6th gear 40-70mph, rather than the most appropriate gear for each car?

Re: GPS 1.4 T-JET or GPS 1.9 M-JET

TJet from my perspective. TJet feels better balanced (not nose heavy like the diesel), it is $2k cheaper than the MJet and diesel is expensive here (95 RON PULP is average 159.4c/L in Perth vs diesel average of 177.2c/L). I don't do anywhere near the km's to make up the cost difference (about 8k km's a year). The only plus side of the MJet for me is the 6 speed box has a much nicer shift than the 5 speed of the TJet (mind you I drive a Pug, so I am used to crappy manual gearshifts).

The MJet sounds like a tractor, that is not the way a Fiat should sound. It has a narrow power band, while riding the torque is great for traffic, it does not seem very conducive to enthusiastic driving, where you like to give it the revs.

My 2c worth.

Troy.

Chris
i apologize

but yes that is usually the case

at present, you are going to have to do quite a lot of mileage to justify derv though

Re: GPS 1.4 T-JET or GPS 1.9 M-JET

I think a £200 mod is very good saying it'll beat the t-jet even at stand still. And top out higher... I laugh at ppl that say "haha it's a diesel" then they end up in my rear view mirror? :P

Re: GPS 1.4 T-JET or GPS 1.9 M-JET

I do an average 12,000 miles per year with the majority on the motorway.

With the price of fuel do you think it will be justified in getting the M-Jet??

Re: GPS 1.4 T-JET or GPS 1.9 M-JET

I still dont see why people laugh at diesel powered cars?

A few years ago (apparently) 37% of new cars bought in the UK were turbo diesel's.

- They pull better
- more economical
- less damaging to the environment
- You always get someone powering past you on the motorway in a "2.0 TDI" audi or VW

Petrol engines imo can go from sounding ok, to sounding completely shagged, whereas (old) diesel engines sound completely shagged when new, and completely shagged 20 years down the line, so you dont lose out.

Re: GPS 1.4 T-JET or GPS 1.9 M-JET

I can't see myself getting a diesel again to be honest, although the GPS is relatively quick, i so miss the response, revvyness and sound from a petrol engine.

If the Tjet was available when I bought mine I probably would have gone for that, plus its lighter engine so I would imagine handles better too.

From what I have said though the 1.9 is really fantastic for motorway driving!

Your going to get mixed opinions here on what to go for, and there are definite pro/cons of each, best thing to do would to try and get a test drive and see which you prefer!

Answer is it depends! I do over 20k miles a year and am better off running a 1.4 Panda than my old Mondeo TDCI or a Golf TDI which both achieve similar mpg but sound worse and are not as fun to drive and no faster over the same routes.
