Ide say punto GT. Simply becuase of the reliability of turbo cinqs. If its power you want then Ide also say Punto GT, They have more power as standard and have massive tuning potential. The engine is designed to take the turbo and the power it produces and isnt just a bolt on kit like a turbo cinq.

Yes, a turbo cinq would be more "stealthy" but ital blow head gaskets and pistons left right and centre and will jsut generaly piss you off
Well, to be fair, it only seems to be the higher boost turbos that have problems - the lower boost turbos have relatively little problems.

Well here is my thinking behind it.

Firstly a stnd punto gt is a group 14 insurance (IIRC) and hence will already be loaded for turbo and power, braking capabilities etc etc.

Cinq is a group 2/3/4 dependant on which insurance company. Now you add a turbo kit to a cinq they are gonna load the policy to cover that modification. Usually around 50% extra plus something for the extra bhp. Then you have your induction kit (10%), throttle body (15%) camshaft (15%) etc etc....... its gonna work out more expensive because the insurance company will add percentages upon percentages. GT will be cheaper to insure.

Re: punto gt or turbo cinq

my cinq cheaper to insure than a punto gt would have cost to insure

Though you have to think, cinq at its tuned limit is stock gt territory...

Re: punto gt or turbo cinq

£332 for cinq with elephant (old git aint i?)
£546 for punto gt with elephant.

There is no chance that a turbo cinq is gonna cost less than £550 with all mods declared, since its probably gonna have new wheels and suspension, strut braces and all sorts.

Ross

p.s. just done those quotes there just now

Re: punto gt or turbo cinq

Depends what you want out of a car. If you just want a hassle free 'out-of-the-box' turbo car, then look at the punto GT. If your more of a cinq enthusist then turboing might be the option... if you got the time and skills. Also do you need regular transport from your car... turboing a cinq isn't an overnight job. So a spare run around will mean more insurance and additional costs.
Personally, I'm not keen on Punto GT - no disrespect to anyone who has one, but I think they are a bit common, but then I've never been in one :P
What about an Uno T?
Or a non-fiat? Save some cash for a Lupo GTi? Ou, what about a Golf Mk2 Gti?

£332 You can't be that old my Cinq cost me less than half that with all my mods declared (HIC)

if it were me i would be tempted by a Turbo cinq (and I am) but there are a number of factors to consider, the main being If it is to be your only form of transport if so then the HGT would be the head choice, if it were to be a toy and a second or third car then the heart choice, the Cinq would win hands down.

As every Cinq turbo owner on the Forum knows to there cost your life will not be trouble free and if you already drive a cinq then you are a real man which means you just won't be able to go low boost

Emma is 22 and has every single mod for her car declared, turbo, pistons intercooler, suspension, wheels, etc etc etc and she pays about the same as your quote on a standard Cinq for fully comprehensive cover.

I paid £144 on a Turbo Cinq 3rd party last year.

Aaron.

Re: punto gt or turbo cinq

just read this thread, as it has been said before the turbo cinq is on its limit whereas the GT is stock (provided you find an un-abused one) i think the GT is the better choice

Re: punto gt or turbo cinq

As much as I'd love a turbo cinq, its gotta be the GT every time.

A) The engine is designed to be turbo'd
B) The engine is designed to kick out 130 bhp in stock form
C) The brakes were desinged for a turbo
D) The whole thing is ready as it is out the box
E) A modded GT is faster
F) More people deal with GTs than Turbo Cinques
G) Its just another IG14 car to insurance companies (tends to be cheaper if you dont need specialists

The list goes on

Re: punto gt or turbo cinq

the turbo'd 1.4 lampredi engine in the punto GT surely is enough for you to chose the PGT. then looking at insurance, power, tuning etc. surely it is a clear winner?

Who with ? And can you scan a copy of that through? Cause i used to work in insurance and doubt that. My dad whos 45 and drives a 1 litr micra, and has never had an accident, pays £160.

However, if its true, i REALLY wanna know how
