Hi, Thought i'd made a new thread with a difference, most posts on here are people asking for help with problems and doesn't look good to people looking to buy one, so i thought you could put all of the good points of your little punto and what you most like about it, Thanks Guys 'Nd Gals!

I love my baby too (mk1), i love the sound system, the steering wheel, her gorgeous curves and her wonderful roar as she accelerates. OK not much is left standard but i wouldn't change her for the world

Re: I LOVE My Punto Do You?

The fact the 60 it's a total hoot on the track is astounding, sure you'll go faster in a Corsa 1.8 SRi or what ever, but the 60 will leave you with a bigger grin on your face. Yet the critter won't bat an eyelid at doing a 1300 mile journey in 2 days or popping down the shops... Oh yeah, that down B-road it'll keep up with a hard driven C5 2.0 16v Estate

Re: I LOVE My Punto Do You?

on long and big roads the little punto struggles (4000rpm + on motorways , which is embarissing and expensive on te old amber nectar).

but on a select few B roads and very few A roads, when its quiet, and there are no caravans or lorries, or old foggies, I love it to pieces, I especially love my unique 'folding' rear radius arms, that move about side to side in corners to allow for tighter handling

it may all end in disaster one day, but I love it,

I also love 5000-6200rpm in 2nd gear , it really tries hard the little engine

OH and thoughs front arch's on the mk1!!! so characterful and wide,

if only the rears were the same!!
I have a plan for my car, IF in say 2-3years time and I haven't replaced this car, the money I've saved might not go towards a new one, but instead some kind of a wide body punto, with a 5cyl coupe turbo engine roaring away up front, with coupe front suspension, and lancia delta rear suspension (sits 'correctly' when lowered that much), and not much else!!! maybe a rare abarth kit, but I'd keep the vulga green as its quite unique!
cost a fortune, still be really rough and unsettled thru corners, but the driving position is spot on, the seats are reallly good when compared to the competition (fiestas, corsas etc, got no where near the suppot, and they are also too wide, punto seats are ideal width!).

Re: I LOVE My Punto Do You?

Will find out if I still like mine when i get it back on Saturday. Hopefully back to form after having a MAF fitted.

Jtd's are great on the motorway. 90mph, 40mpg, only just over 2500rpm

Still like the look of it aswell. Mk2 has the best headlights

about 75mph = 4k rpm in my 60, still I can get high 40, low 50s out of her.

4k rpm = an indicated 83mph ish but in real terms thats about 75mph, at that speed it will pull about 48mpg, at an indicated 60-65 mph on a roads trundling along behind the huge que of trafffic behind that caravan, it will get about 51mpg!!
best I've had is 53mpg over almost the whole tank load!!

ONe thing I've got to say is that its so happy to rev hard it makes overtaking fun, when driving other cars with far more power I'm never that happy overtaking in closely packed ques, but when driving my punto I'm like an italian driver!!! squeese into every little space there is!! usually I'm the only one to be doing any overtaking! (of course it helps I know every place that can be overtook in, even when you can't imediatly see (looking strategically placed hedges and gateways!))

Re: I LOVE My Punto Do You?

I miss one MK1 punto round town

It was 5door 55 S M reg. So nippy and the handling allways kept me awake! I loved the fact I could hit the rev limiter in 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th daily and it never gave me greif. Was a bit of a pain on the motorway - had to work hard between 4th and 5th to keep up with the general flow when overtaking, but would happily sit at 80 on the clock (GPS reckoned about 73) for hours on end, slight smell of burning oil, and it used a little water on long journeys, but trouble free motoring for me! The openess of the center console was perfect for my rather gangly build! More comfy than my Ford Escort

Very economical too! weither I drove with my foot flat to the floor or like grandad allways got more than 400 to the tank, and it only cost about 33 to fill him up!

RIP Melvin - sorry I let those nasty men from london come and take you away :'( I should have MOT'd you and kept you as a project sorry dude!

All rise for the MK1 punto!
