Heh, funny that. My '95 55SX is quoted at 93mph and I had 105 out of it as well, which I'm almost certain was the very limit.

Most cars always go quite a bit faster than the manufacturers conservative estimates. Afaik they test 0-62 times and top speeds with simulated weight of two passengers and some luggage. Plus they always put a slower figure down anyway so no one sues them over performance (more relevent in a sports car perhaps)!

A couple of months ago i was on the motorway and i was surprised as well! Granted I was on a slight decline (:I) but i was doing 105 and the counter was still going! A police car was parked on the other side of the carriageway and I thought i was done! Luckily i have been told they cant get u across lanes...phew.

I have the same punto and when i am on my own it shifts. Put more people in it and it slows right down in a big way. Maybe the published speeds are with two in it (most common scenario).

Did you have the fish? No...I ate it.

Seems the same with all cars. My 55SX has hit 107 (briefly, before I took pity on the engine) but it's very sensitive to conditions. That was on a warm dry day; tried it on a slightly misty cold day and it would only just do 100. Even though cold air should increase performance [:0] - maybe it was the dampness?
Also the weight in the car does make a massive difference, especially to accelaration - a consequence of a small engine in a light car!
My last car, a '91 Uno 45 with the 903cc engine, was rated to 87 and could do 95 (possibly more but it only had a 4-speed 'box). Maybe the speed in the handbook (I think it's 93 or 97) is a maximum recommended speed to avoid overstressing the engine?

I like the Toll Raod - it a race track, everyone was speeding like they were on a track day!

4.00am Sunday morning on a familiar, good stretch of road is always a good bet. 132mph / 6,200rpm out of the HGT Punto. Nice car, but when you're going that speed in a small car - it scares the living crap out of you. Will not be trying it again.

Get ya nuts in at every available opportunity!!!

Hi everyone! Speedo aint always accurate on cars, all depending weather it is standered or not, i have just come across a P registered 1996 Fiat Punto. I have a set of black Fiat Strada Recaro bucket seats (recline b/wards!) and a sporty Fiat Strada Steering wheel! These are very rare! Do any of you have any ideas on alloy wheels? Would 15.s be any gd??
