(T) Starting problems...

My Punto is having trouble starting recently. It seems to be made worse when the fuel is low, or when it is parked facing unhill. Has anyone got any ideas? I assume it's to do with the fuel pump or line, just wondered if anyone else has experienced similar problems?

Another (unrelated) point I was going to mention, my Punto has had the common fiat problems - the steering column failing and the erratic revs (related to the throttle potentiometer?). I don't know much about cars, but I found both components and attacked them ruthlessly with WD40 and a small hammer, and the problems were fixed! This was about a year ago, and they haven't come back - strange, eh?
