(T) scratchy noise (drivers side front wheel)

got my boyfriend to have a listen to my front wheel last night I can hear a bit of a scraping/scratchy/rubbing noise when going straight on or going round bends, can only hear it my side not passenger side, boyfriend was on his hands and knees looking but couldnt see anything obvious, but it was dark!

anyone got any idea's what it could be?

car is a 2001 x reg - mk 2 - bout 40k miles on, MOT's due around Feb time.

I have also noticed slight noises with my wheels and had my mates looking out the passenger windows while im driving, they think it might be something to do with the wheel trims scraping against the wheels.

i'll get him to take them off 2nite and have another drive around...
(god even that sounds funny) - take off the wheel trims i mean!!!

Yeah, take the trims off and see if it still makes the noise, if not, then there's the problem solved.

I doubt it would be the trims, if it was, it would be obvious. But i may be wrong?

i blieve there a sheild roundthe disc that bet get bent slighty and soo rub maybe worth looking at it

I've had the exact same problem - the backplates can come into contact with the disc and make a noise. I just bent them away from the disc with a big screwdriver

could it not be something more serious?, its hard to tell by someone describing the sound but wheel bearings or damaged or warped disc.i hope it is only the wheel trim.

a shield around what disc? the brake discs?
will get him to check at the weekend in the light.
he said he hopes it isnt the bearings...!

yeah the break disc has a chile round it on teh back side. only thin metal it can get bent and just touch disc making that noise.


guess it could be bearing that is more a whiring noise that changes with speed
