| Squealing brakes\wheels on Punto 55_S Hi there, need some advice on my P-Reg Punto 55_S! Had the brake disks and pads replaced in August, and since then the front-right brakes have begun squealing. It's usually OK until I get about 15 minutes into the journey, when they start squealing under moderate pressure, as the journey continues this builds to squealing under any pressure! More worryingly, lately a rattling noise started coming from the wheel when I steered left. This then turned into a squealing and soon the front right squealed whenever I turned a corner (either left or right). Now it's just started squealing\ rattling all the time when I'm driving anywhere - which doesn't fill me with confidence! I've taken it to a garage and was shown a bent piece of metal behind the brake disk - the bloke there called it an "Anti-squeal plate" but when I brought this up at a Fiat garage I was told that no such part existed and that even if it did it wasn't vital. As I said before, this thing is all bent out of shape. My question is - Is this the cause of my problem, and is it vital to get it replaced or am I still safe to drive? Thanks in advance

| That Anti Sqeek Plate you were told about mate is probably the cirt shield which helps prevent items being flicked up from the wheel and jammed in the brakes. They are not vital but it will make your brakes last longer. I get the sqeeking noise from the brakes which is a real pain in the ass but cant help you with that one Sensible mods go far

| Thanks for the info. Took it back to the garage and was told that the top of the tyre was rubbing against the brake disk (!) which sounded implausible. Indeed it was - still got the damn problem. Any ideas?

| Probably the dirt shield is touching the disc. That can certainly make horrible rattles and squeals and any runout in the bearing (there's usually a little) will make it worse as you turn. It is any easy job to bend the sheild away from the disc so that there is no contact.

| All youneed to do is take your brake pads off (well easy) and put some copper grease on the back of every one Never under estimate the power of Punto

| if the dics have been replaced it will be the cover behind it as new discs are 2 mm wider and catch it all the time. i just replaced my dics and that was the prob for me so just go underneath and move it slightly out it should stop it. but dont worry punto brakes seem to heat up more than others and squeell like a bitch all the time its a fault that isnt rectified but also does no harm aswell[8D] live life to full and peace to you all Dumbo the great
