Hello,

I just finished my 1st engine rebuild, tried to start it, but it just keeps cranking and won't start. When you push throttle pedal small explosion occurs and pops fire through throttle body (sometimes). Valve clearance good, spark plugs giving a good spark. Timing on crankshaft, camshaft and flywheel (0 degrees) all aligned. Before engine rebuild I needed to push throttle pedal and would take some time to start it. And yeah, I cleaned crankshaft sensor because it was full of oil and dirt. I hope I gave you enough info, if no, ask.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like spark plug leads not connected in correct order.

Well done getting to point where you can attempt to start engine already.

Do you have very old fuel in tank?
Do you have enough fuel?
Do you hear electric pump in tank run when you turn key to on?

I can hear fuel pump.
Fuel is 2 weeks old, fuel light is on, but more than enough for 50+ kms.
I have a coil pack.

Do a quick check by swapping the low voltage connectors on each coil and then trying to start.

Sorry for the question about in tank pump if it doesn't have one.

Will do tomorrow, car not at my place atm. Do you think it can be something with crankshaft sensor?
Connected it via IAW Scan 2 and no errors are given.

Almost forgot, one interesting note, coolant temperature meter pointing at the very top when cranking the engine.

If you are getting sparks at plug leads then crank sensor almost certainly good.
You are doing a great job.
50kms not a lot of fuel , you would be sensible to put more in, just in case not enough fuel for pump to pick up.
Fuel age is ok , 6months + would be problem.
Good luck tomorrow.
Check all pipes to inlet manifold connected for example the pipe to brake booster/servo. An open pipe would be a problem.

Battery light is blinking when cranking an engine, don't know is this normal or i'm noticing too much.

I don't know anything about iaw scan 2
Are you sure it will work with your 1995 car

Yeap it works good, very similar to multiecuscan I think. Showed me short to ground, when 2 ignition wires were touching each other. So I assume it works.

Had a quick look at iaw scan 2 and looks like could work , great

Is it possible to get camshaft 180 degrees off if all timing marks are correctly aligned. Now i'm wondering if camshaft end that goes on camshaft sprocket has only one dot on it so it can fit only one way, or line accross whole camshaft end so it can be fitted 2 ways (180 degrees on/off).

Try more fuel first.
Then if that doesn't work just in case try swapping the low voltage connectors on the coils tomorrow.
There should only be one timing mark on cam pulley and crank.
Did you check how the marks aligned before dismantling?

Very very important -make sure -ve battery lead connected to engine/gearbox tightened correctly and connected to car body correctly.
This was meant to quote post saying temperature gauge goes to maximum when engine cranking on starter motor.
