Technical Punto Mk1 1997 60k with injection warning light

Back again.
Eventually got one of the cables had to wait for one from China despite told it was in Britain.
Downloaded the Multiecuscan 3.6 program and ran it.
Read the manual configured the serial port to slow rate as advised. When installed USB end of cable operating sys Win10 seemed to pick it up immediately as no contrary warning.

Connected the cables to ECU and laptop and the power connections which I proved with multimeter.
Selected Punto55 from menu and Magneti Marelli 16F Injection from submenu. Turned ignition key to “on”.
Tried Multiecuscan “CONNECT”…got message Connection Failed Com 1 doesn’t exist.
Ran “SCAN” again no scanning took place and nothing written to file.

Tried the same with the other submenu Magneti Marelli 06F Evoluta injection but the first listed ECU is written in ECU box. Tried with ignition off and with engine running and no difference.
Where do I go from there considering my friendly garage could not connect to ECU either.

Mmmm, sounds like its an issue with the computer not recognising the wire properly than anything else - I'm not going to be much use here as i have never had that problem, I've always just stuck the wire in and opened the program it it work straight away..

You could try dropping the guy who make MES an email, he is a pretty helpful chap - like i say i don't think there is anything wrong with the software, only thing i can think of atm is the cable is a dodgy one

If you plug in your wire, open MES and go to settings (press F9) - then go to interfaces tab does it show the VAGCOM cable and a serial port number, this should work automatically but maybe it hasnt. There is a 'test' button there as well you can check to see if its working as well.

That light can come on for dozens of different reasons, but I had just that trouble, engine coughing and loss of power when my petrol pump filter down in the tank was full of muck. Cleaned out with the air line it cured the trouble, so somewhere there is a pressure sensor that will put the light on when not enough is getting through. Take great care taking out the pump, the big locking ring will probably break and the rubber sealing ring will probably be decomposing. Blow out the cloth pickup filter at the bottom with careful use of a blowgun. NO SMOKING !!

Selecting the “open MES and go to settings (press F9) -then go to interfaces tab does it show the VAGCOM cable and a serial port number”, no it didn’t till selected and it took me a bit further this time till I got the warning sign “This module requires registration” flashed and hitting “y” or “n” made no difference. Yet the multiecuscan says it free with restrictions.

In the meantime car appeared to be running on 2 cylinders it was so rough and without power so I got 2 Fiat Punto coils from dismantler. Connected one of the coils up loosely and to my amazement it worked (thought the HT side needed an earth connection) the injection warning light went out and car ran perfect. Ran the car this way for a few days and to confirm this was a faulty intermittent coil I but the leads back on it and to my amazement car continued to run perfect. Had numerous times previously unplugged and re-set plug leads with no difference. Car is now working perfect, but don’t know for how long as problem never id. Still like to get an ecu report on the fault. How do I get a free report?

Do not run the car for very long with one coil set not functioning! It will start and run very well on 2 cylinders and drive OK on a get-you-home basis, but the catalytic converter will be severely damaged or destroyed on the way! Get a tow.
