As usual on the 1.2 16 Valve my air intake pipe is knackered, has anybody found a solution to this?

Yes I solved it by making up a pipe from 50mm pvc grey sink waste pipe with elbows, taking it from the air filter intake sideways a few inches then down past the cambelt cover then forwards to a quiet spot just behind the front skirt. I warmed it with a hot air pistol to get it over the air filter intake stub and wired it with a couple of turns of twisted ductile builders wire while the pipe was still soft. It's permanent and a bit longer than the rubber thing that perishes fitted by Fiat. I may fit a clip to the cambelt cover bolt to steady it although it doesn't shake about because the 8-valve 55 is very firmly mounted.

Air intake pipe made from PVC plumbers waste pipe, elbows, pvc cement, wire and paint. Use the heat gun to spread it over the intake stuub on the air filter and wire it tight while still hot. Reaches into a sheltered spot behind the front skirt beside the wheel arch. Been on 2 years works a treat.

Because PVC pipe is usually rigid then you can't use it if it needs to flex even a small amount. But there is a grey flexible PVC pipe available which I considered using. But my installation is freestanding and no flex is needed. You could also look for a piece of radiator pipe the right diameter with bends where needed. Motor factors also sell convoluted hose that would easily do the job.The original one on the Punto mk1 was such trashy rubber it perished in only a few years. The Spanish scene is very difficult as Fiat skipped all spare parts pre-2000 and that means they don't want to know about either my Punto 55 or my Ducato TD10. So I have to make do and mend with every single requirement.

No good for the set up on the 16V, needs to flex.

I'd just make something from black silicone myself, if you don't want that shiny silicone looks get samco classic range. Just take some measurements of the pipe to be replaced and buy appropriate bends, couplers and clamps. Get some of the flat black mikalor hose clamps and they aren't so obvious as shiny polished ones.
