Wheres The Redline?

Hi,

Whats the redline for the Punto ELX 1.2 8v? My rev counter doesn't show it.

Thanks

Re: Wheres The Redline?

i think they did 8v as well. Check you owners manual. If not i know a man who will know what it is, Oldschool.

I would guess it was around the 6000rpm mark though although its good for 8500rpm. Retro cars had an article which claimed that it could be wound up to 14000rpm before it pops.

Re: Wheres The Redline?

I don't think there is a red line on the rev counter (didn't have one on my Punto JTD ELX).
As for your engine, it has max. bhp at 5000rpm (i think), so you really don't need to go above that. Unless you've had it remapped or something.

No red-line, just a rev-limiter which will be at roughly 6000rpm.

ELX came with 8-valve and 12 valve engines, along with the 1.9JTD

Re: Wheres The Redline?

there was never a 12v engine fitted into the punto mk2.

As for reving higher with the mapping red-line stays the same as fixed mapping cuts back in again at around 5400-500rpm.

Re: Wheres The Redline?

my mk2 1.2 8v rev counter goes up to 7000rpm but i never take it above 5500rpm as i don't want to thrash the engine too much.

Re: Wheres The Redline?

Yeah the highest I ever taken it is 5000rpm, but there feels like after 3000 rpm its only making more noise and no go I reckon its got more of a torquey low down motor rather than a revvy screamer. Whereas on the bike it gets more and more mental up to 14500 (and thats before the red )

Re: Wheres The Redline?

Yes redliining it won't make it accelerate faster, but the noise can be addictive My old mk1 8v sounded the dogs b******s at full revs. How I miss the sound
