Punto Mk 2 CD player

How many different CD Players are there ? I'd like to replace the existing Radio/cassette with a Radio/Single CD HU as i don't own any cassette tapes, but have hundreds of CD's.
The car is a Mk2 1.2 ELX W reg/2000.
The existing Radio cassette is a 'Mid' unit and powers the front and rear speakers , plus the Fiat bass unit in the boot.
It has 3 plugs going in to it, these are:
i) Power plug
ii) Speaker plug
iii) Yellow/Green/Blue plug, (iirc) only the yellow bit has wires though ( CDC Bus - is this for a CD Changer unit ?)

Any idea of which model of Single CD head unit will fit so i can start looking out for one...

Cool Re: Punto Mk 2 CD player

I had a CD-Changer fitted to mine in the boot. Was about £170 supplied by and fitted at my local car audio place back in 2001. Blaupunkt CDC-A08 that takes 10 CDs. After that I never used the tape player but didn't have to worry about it being broken in to steal...

I would consider an adaptor plate and aftermarket CD player , however i think they look more attractive to would be thieves.

I bought a CD Changer (CD-36) directly off Grundig and fitted it myself in my Brava ( last car). The Punto boot is pretty small, and so i'd probbly go for a different location. I fitted the Brava CD Changer underneath the RH side of the rear passenger seat, there is a space where it fits perfectly. I have a Kenwood Radio/Cassette HU with CD Changer in my other car (Vauxhall Astra), i find that even though the changer is fitted in the glove box it is still a PITA to use.

I have seen another type of CD changer which is a 5 disc unit that mounts into the front Dash, howeve i don't think my car as the right shape/configuration of dash , or do you remove some of the vents ???

So basically, I own and have owned CD Changers and would now like to try a single CD/Radio HU.

Thanks for replies so far , but getting back on track , has anybody got any idea's of which Blaupunkt Single CD players will fit my particular Punto, a part or model number would be great...

Re: Punto Mk 2 CD player

i think there is only one cd unit for the mk2 punto mk2.5 is wird differently i belive so dont get that.

the yellow conector is the connector so the cars on board computer can check if you have inputted the radio code. this wire is not used if putting after market stereo in.

They're Blaupunkt as well, and come on some Punto's as standard. I'd suggest getting in touch with the helpful friendly people at Blue Spot for compatability info.

Cool Re: Punto Mk 2 CD player

Hello m8

I have done exactly what you are tryin to do and had the same problems you are having!

Firstly i take it on your tape player it says subwoofer on the tape flap? This is important as it is wired differently to those tape players which do not say this. If it does not and you try to swap it for the cd player it comes up with the message CANCHECK and so does not work.

Secondly i have found that only 1 shape of blaupunkt cd players for the punto will fit the mk2's from 99 to around 02. This is the 1 which in its design is set back a little bit from flush with the dash. This is an example:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Blaupunkt-CD-R...QQcmdZViewItem

The newer shape players are not compatible to the 99 to around 02 mk2 punto's as they are wired up differently. This is an example:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1

I changed mine bout 3 weeks ago and took about 1 min to fit and its great the way it fits flush to the dash.

Hope this helps

Cheers Mike

The Kenwood HU fitted in my Astra is a face off one. In theory they're a great idea however after a few years of using these types of HU's You soon get hacked of with removing the faceplate and carrying it around with you. The chances of my wife remembering to remove it and lugging it around with her are around about zero.

You need to be really strict about these types of HU's as the one time that you don't bother to remove it will be the one time that a thief strikes.....

If you've just fitted a face off unit recently, I bet you're still not removing it every time in two years time.....

Yes it does.

I've also been monitoring e-bay. Sometimes the photos that people take are not too good, but it looks like one of the models ( the later one) has a slightly more oval shape to it at the top, my current Radio/Cassette seems to be a little more angular.

An OEM blaupunkt unit will be great, but I'm not gonna get too hung up about it, as another make with an adaptor plate will do, especially if it has a rotary Volume control - i hate buttons...

An chance of a part number for the one that will definately fit ??

Trust me ive had aftermarket head units in nearly all my cars and always take the panel off............the latest is a £600 dvd unit so that defo always comes off!

As you quite fairly say tho they're easy to forget about, and it is annoying i guess having to take it off and put it back on, but when you consider the features you get on an aftermarket job, as apposed to something sold by Fiat......personally id find it hard to manage with a standard type thing

Re: Punto Mk 2 CD player

£600 ! Yeah, i can see why you'd be careful about that, .

To be perfectly honest I'm just after a simple functional unit to do the job and sounds OK. I have a pretty good Home Hi-Fi for serious music listening, Vinyl records are my real passion ( LP's not 12" dance singles ) A Linn 'Sondek' LP12 Turntable being my main music source. CD's are just a barely nessessary modern evil in my eyes...

I don't spend a huge amount of time in my car, and the Punto is more my wifes car anyway , so if i did get a really good sound system installed , not only would she probably break it , but she'd not appreciate it either, sad but true i'm afraid...

Re: Punto Mk 2 CD player

A quick question here guys, on the canbus system.

Is the security coding system on the Fiat radios completely self contained within the units themselves or does the radio/CD Chnager have to interface with the cars ECU Computer in any way ?

I'm asking to settle a disagreement i'm having with somebody...

Re: Punto Mk 2 CD player

I want to place a mk2b radio/cd/mp3 in my mk2 punto. But i get the cancheck message. I would think that's because it's wiring is different. Mainly that will be because the mk2b radio can use the main punto display. but is there a converter iso plug on the market to get it to work.
